It astounds me that VW can't offer this... at least OFFER, a diesel engine for this car. Dumb.

You mean the Golf TDI? (The Rabbit is back to the Golf)

Nope. I mean a Rabbit TDI, what they should've offered us to begin with. If I wanted what basically amounts to a GTI with a diesel engine (and wanted to spend the $24k they're gonna cost) I would move to ANYWHERE ELSE in the world and fork out more cash for a GTD... and get a better car anyways! Come on, Vee Dubb.

I think you're confused. The Golf TDI is a Rabbit TDI. The Golf and the Rabbit at the same thing. Yes, you pay a premium for the TDI, and it would be nice if they packaged a "base model TDI", but they don't right now.

Robert, maybe you're unaware but the new Golf TDI is basically a GTI with a diesel engine. My whole point was that VW should have offered a diesel engine in the Rabbit from the start, rather than only offering the 2.5 engine. I know the Rabbit/Golf are synonymous.

To me, the concept for the Rabbit is/was an economy hatch, and a diesel would have only made it more true to form. It'd be smarter for VW to offer a base Rabbit available with some nice options, for less than 20k.

And to cover the other end of the spectrum, VW should get their act together and bring the GTD to the US... please!

I think the new (mk 6) golf has a TDI available. We were very bummed that the rabbit couldnt be had with a diesel.

But at the same time, my wife doesnt like the new golf, and loves her rabbit.
