Which one is better for cost?

The application is an '01 2.2L S10 in Ohio. You guessed it - the truck isn't raced or used for towing! Factory spec is 5w30. I bought the truck for cheap transportation. Inexpensive and effective maintaince is a goal.

Perhaps M1EP 10w30 in the summer, and then M1EP 5w30 or GC in the winter?

GC all year round? M1EP 5w30 all year round?

I'll be using a Wix 51040 filter, because I get them for $3.25 at work, unless another filter would justify the price difference.

I find GC around here for 4.99 a qt and M1EP for 5.32 so but sometimes GC is hard to find. So from that stand point it depends do u like looking around at Autozone's to find GC. For both I would do a UOA to establish a OCI.

Hard to find, in San Diego?
It's everywhere around here. Yes, I'm in San Diego too.
Go to the bigger AutoZone stores, ignore the smaller ones, with the limited shelf space.

Green GC is still out there in some AutoZone locations, but it is slowly being replaced by the gold GC.

I've found 39 quarts total in the last week between 5 stores. all at $4.39.

It's still floating through the inventory of the AZ warehouses I think- but i'm sure it will all be gone soon.

I actually think that the AZ warehouse inventories of the Green have been depleted a couple of months or so ago (at least in So Cal).
The Green we keep encountering in the stores is the remaining stock that has been sitting on the store shelves for quite a while by now.
Unless it is from the most recent Green M0501 batch that was the last Green batch to leave the AutoZone warehouses.

Vad what about MR. RX in Ohio it might be hard to find. I can find it just about everyday at the AZ down the street from me.

Sorry for misunderstanding, dave.

Nothing is wrong.
It's just we don't have any evidence of improvement.
At least not yet.
On the contrary, the initial VOA's we've seen to date read like a downgrade rather than an improvement.
For example the TBN is significantly lower in the Gold - 6, as opposed to the Green's 8.5 (TBN D-664 OLD test used for both oils. The results are lower than new test D-2896)
The composition shows some stark differences in the levels of Mag and Calcium.
This particular data might not be telling the whole picture.
But that's all we got at the moment.
