I bought 12 quarts of Lucas 'full synthetic' transmission fluid from Tractor Supply on close out, $3/quart a while ago. Since then I acquired a Dodge Charger r/t with the NAG1 transmission that specs 'only use ATF+4' fluid.

The label shows many specs including ATF+4. Would anyone here be brave enough to do a filter and fluid change using this?? I cannot find Lucas ATF on an approved ATF+4 spec sheet although the sheets I am finding may be older.

Use Redline C+ instead.

If your transmission doesn't have a drain plug, get an aftermarket pan that has one. It will make future ATF changes much easier :D

The Charger has 75,000 miles on it and was used as a basic transportation car, no racing or towing. The car sat for a few years and I recently got it driving again... been going through the brakes, new tires, etc. I have been getting the TCC 0741 lock up clutch solenoid code upon occasion. I do have a small barely detectable amount of shudder/vibration in higher gears at low throttle input, when the ECO light is on (MDS Hemi). Other than that it shifts smooth and all feels well.

I bought a WIX filter and gasket and planned on changing those and cycling the 12 quarts of fluid through it after the change with a fluid extractor.

Awesome...... valve body would be a fairly easy change with new solenoids, wiring plate and connector. Torque converter would include dropping the exhaust, driveshaft and cooler lines, unplug electrical and shift cable, then unbolting the bell housing to slide transmission back where someone other than me might get at the converter on the flexplate. I don't want to do that on my back.

No wonder these cars end up in the junkyards.

Tip: add a tube of lubrigard SHUDDER FIX to your fresh fluid. Under $15 at autozone. It flat out works on shudder.

Cool. I will change the filter and fluid. I will try a dedicated approved ATF+4 fluid for the Charger. Then do a couple more drain and refills to get closer to having all of fluid changed.

I will evaluate then whether I will add in the 2oz. Lubegard shudder fix.

I will save the Lucas for the TH350 in the El Camino in my signature.

Good choice. I think the Lucas generic ATF would be fine for your old El Camino but I would NOT run it anything modern.

I've run Royal Purple in a 46RE....so yeah, I'd run the Lucas, although I'd probably restrict it to beaters like old Caravans, Dakotas, XJs and 2nd or 3rd Gen Rams.
