RB Shannon,
Good evening to everyone else here also.
RB you made a good try at the LE additives, however I'd like to clear up some facts. First I have worked for LE for almost 25 years. I'm a Tribologist, Certified Lubrication Specialist by the STLE (Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers). Since I'm not a sponsor here I will not try and sell anything. I will however try and help you understand who LE is and what they make.
Monolec is not tan colored and not powder. Monolec is a liquid and is a anti-wear agent, lubricity additive, and a self re-generating anti-oxident. It's color is clear. Monolec is used in some gear oils, engine oils, hyd oils, rock drill oils, etc.
Almasol is another chemical that LE uses. It must be the one that you remember. It is tan and a powder. Almasol is not used in engine oils. It is used in gear oils and greases.
LE has been in business since 1951 and markets their oils in 60 other countries besides the USA. They do not market their oils for public use and do not advertize. They mfg their oils for commercial use and because of that you might not see them until someone shows them to you at a trucking shop or a factory somewhere.
LM,
We did not test Redline engine oil because they do not seem to be a direct competitor in the commercial industry. We did test the Amsoil engine oil HDD 15w-40. It did do very well (as good as LE for low wear) but not as good for oxidation resistance. Amsoil asked if we would not print these results or their numbers so we have taken them off the list. My personal opinion of Amsoil is that they have one of the best oils on the market, just like LE.
I'm not trying to start any wars and I will not put another oil down on this site. My hopes are to answer facts about LE or their oils.
Hope this helped,
Kevin Dinwiddie CLS
