I have 2 degrees in geology, I think I'm going to look into getting this tribology cert so I can destroy people here on BITOG. $4500. 1 week. I've taken classes this long/this cost at Colorado School of Mines....I can write it off to my business. I'm in. Prepare to be destroyed BITOG peasants!

Read em' and weep scumdogs!

I found it. Lake basically took some courses from the Society of Tribologists but he himself is not a Tribologist. According to every engineering school I googled there is a specific graduate program. I do not see any of these listed on his page. All I see is he took some certification courses from the Society.
Probably a good idea to start a new thread and discuss these credential issues and what we should do about it, as a community. We can't have non-degreed people giving authorative lubrication advice. Do you agree?

Probably need to sort through the membership and weed out anyone that isn't an expert based on education. Then, only those folks have priveledges to respond to questions...the rest of us are read-only.

Bingo! Also means no posting Youtube videos about "sludge and varnish" because typically those people are just simpletons who turn wrenches for a living and we need somebody with a PhD in Chemistry and tribology to be doing the tear-down, analysis and presenting the conclusions.

Agreed. As long as I can continue to post BINGO cards I'll be happy.

I do not agree. Anyone can feel free to give their opinions no matter who they are. However misrepresenting your credentials is something else entirely. Its not right.

One person here is stating that Lake is a "Degreed Tribologist" and that no engineering education is required which is false. Neither statement is true.

I do see where Lake says he is a Tribologist but probably by his own personal definition and not the definition of any credible engineering school. He has no formal education besides an advertising degree. He took some certification courses from the Society and had experience at "Driven Oil"...thats it. He is not a Degreed Tribologist.

Dude. He litterally tells you in each video that I've seen at least that he has a certification in tribology. That's it. And he does...and you and I can get it as well. Add that to working for Driven, he understand what he is talking about. What is your concern here? He tests oil and reports on his findings.

On his linkedin page there are numbers to verify his certifications in "Oil Monitoring" and "Certified Lubrication Specialist" but those certifications do not make you a Tribologist.

It actually does take going through an engineering school to get there. One member said no engineering school required and made a joke about an actor.

The credential fraud version of Munchausen by proxy?

I do not doubt the information in Lakes videos but when I went through his biography and compared it to what he claimed to be...there were misrepresentations. I think Lake is simply a salesman for these companies he works for.

I can give you Lake's phone number so you can complain to him personally if you wish to do so. I think you deserve to feel better about the information that's out there.
