LSJR blends up a custom oil in the lab

What Pennzoil Platinum 0W-40 was he originally using, because it does not look like he was using the Euro Formula PP 0W-40? I do not know what he blended, but it seems the other oils he was using were not giving him the UOA Numbers he wanted.

LSJr isn't a fan of high calcium. That's why he went with an SP add pack.

I'm not sure exactly which Pennzoil oil he was using prior.

Because they do.

Not since the M+H takeover. Quality has dropped substantially with frequent failures, and they have the filtration efficiency of a tennis racket.

His oil filter vids are pretty bad IMO. He’s stuck in the Wix world. There are certainly high efficiency, high flow, high holding capacity oil filters available…

Crazy Bill's Garage just opened a used WIX 51334 for his wife's ELANTRA with a fairly interesting result . There's also many WIX , NAPA and a few CARQUEST new / used oil filters opened . One video he opens 6 WIX filters . May want to read the COMMENTS for the WIX 51334 or others .

That doesn’t prove anything other than the fact that most shops don’t do enough research. They buy based on price and convenience, not quality
Buy on availability and performance. We're talking billions of $$$ of equipment. Some getting 15+ oil changes a year. (Every 21 days)
We move several thousand gallons of 15w40 a week.

I found the blending of a custom oil very interesting. Lake does this in HPL’s lab. He touches on a bunch of amazing information regarding custom blends(boutique) vs cookie cutter(pre approved) and various ingredient advantages. I definitely learned a couple things. A little spoiler MPAO,PAO/AN/Ester….

I wonder if HPL would blend us a batch? Depending on his oil analysis, I would be interested in it.

If you’re buying based on performance there is enough evidence on here showing that Wix doesn’t perform as well as many other options. I don’t know what else to tell you here, you seem to have blinders on when it comes to the truth about Wix in 2025

I bet I could brew up a better batch in my garage.

I got some Supertech Full Synthetic - BITOG’s low budget darling, NAPA Full Synthetic - famed from LSJR’s dyno testing video, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum - top contender from Project Farm’s cold oil luge race and coffee on the griddle challenge, Restore & Protect - the new kid on the block cleaning house and those dirty piston ring deposits.

I’ll mix it up tonight and call it my BITOG Bro Brew. It’s gonna be a powerhouse. Patent Pending.

LOL!!! My B33 Baldwin filters I use on my Toyota are really loose. I catch a lot of flak from all you for that. They do meet OEM specs, on purpose. I wonder if the Baldwin equivalent filter on that test would be worse than all those, when it comes to catching stuff? Anyhow, your tennis racket comment made me laugh. Have a great day.

How do you know this?

I have been through this with Baldwin customer service and tech support and have written about it several times here on Bitog. The specs of the filters they make are on their website. They get OEM oil filter specs on paper and also test several OEM filters in their engineering dept. Then they start making the filters. Baldwin openly says they are not in the micron rating-efficiency race. They do try to match the OEM efficiency and flow rates. In my case, the B33 has a nominal rating of 23 and an absolute rating of 45. It has paper media, though they do make synthetic blend and fiberglass media filters for other applications. The bypass valve is 14 psid. I have always joked about how they only catch the bird nests and small pebbles. LOL! There are a lot of Toyota owners that ran their Toyota cars over 300,000 miles using nothing but the Toyota OEM filters since the day they were new. I like the construction of the Baldwin filter better. They make heavy duty, quality, OEM specification filters of all kinds. They are owned by Parker Hanafin Corp., a USA company, and shipped all over the world. Anyhow, I like them, and I use them.

I'm glad I could give you a laugh. 😄

If you want to ensure good filtration efficiency, install a remote oil filter kit with a Baldwin B2. The B33 has a volume of ~17.2 in^3 where as the B2 is ~58.1 in^3. The larger capacity with much bigger media area will slow oil flow through the filter which improves filtration.

What again is this guy’s education?

He uses his degree to his advantage. Why wouldn't he? That said, a lot of people go into fields that's outside the scope of their degree. I care more about experience than education. He's been in tribology and oil formulating for 20 years.

My best friend (RIP) was a welding engineer at a nuclear power plant. His degree? Molecular biology. 😄

When he was talking about MoDTC and said something to the effect of interesting things starts happening when the zinc, phosphorus, and molybdenum levels are about the same, it reminded me of the thread with three VOAs from HPL Premium Plus PCMO. Note: The reason the molybdenum level is higher from SpeeDiagnostix is because they use RDC vs ICP testing methods, which can see larger particles of molybdenum.
