The rubber seal in the t stat tends to wear and disappear, short circuiting and having water get around.
If you still have your receipt, get it warrantied.
OE is going to be hard to find for a dead brand. Stant seems to be everywhere. Not saying that's a good thing. It's a poor design; seems like the engine is so efficient when it's winter the 'stat never opens; it just radiates enough heat from the oil pan etc. They probably came up with the rubber thing to (desperately) try and warm it up a little faster.
I assume your coolant temp sensor is in good shape and your coolant is fresh, eg not acidic and eating your rubber stuff. I remember you going through this car, stem to stern not long ago.
