You buy what makes sense to you and I do the same.
I want cheap to run comfortable transportation with no need for towing capacity and I think that's what we have,
Others have different needs and wants and it is not for me nor anyone else to pick apart their choices.
New vs used or cash vs financing is all a matter of where one is in life as well as his risk tolerance. A side factor is job security to enable one to undertake debt. I can say with certainty that nobody I work with has any worries on that score unless they do something outrageously and egregiously stupid.
Even then, the bargaining unit employees can usually get their jobs back on a last chance basis.
At the end of the day, we're all legally competent adults empowered to make our own choices.
After all of the above, there is only one outlook for the actual retail transaction pricing of those vehicles at high inventory levels as measured by days of supply and it ain't up.
Patience will reward those who practice it.

Me too.1963. My Dad was born in 1929 and grew up one of eight kids in the depression. Grandad got gassed in Germany in WW1 and came back disabled with severe COPD. Dad nearly starved as a kid, then joined the US Navy, worked in the engine room of battleships. Dad then worked as a mechanic for DuPont Chemical for 33 years.

I never had a hard day in my life, and my kids were raised with astounding comfort. They. Have. No. Idea.

I'm far from that, yet I remember once asking a question about my truck, and the thread turned into a critique about why I didn't need a truck.

Yeah. I do like the guys on here who have told me just rent a truck. You ever try to rent a 3/4 ton or better truck to tow a parade float or your 32 foot travel trailer? Good luck with that one. Plus, I tow 20-30 times a year so it is inconvenient to rent any truck. I know what I can afford and what my retirement is going to look like. I spend accordingly and buy what I need.

I’m currently actively looking for a 1/2 ton truck.

Trucks that were mid $40’s a couple years ago are pushing $60k now.

I simply can’t justify the cost. Everything else in my life has gone up 10-20% without any spending or lifestyle changes.

Pricing on everything is horrible. That is why I loved my 2017 1 ton. I paid 36500 for it with 27,000 miles on it in 2019. I knew I could never replace it for that that price. When it was totaled with 47,000 miles on it similar 2015s to 2018s with 40,000 to 70,000 miles were selling for 45,000 to 55,000 dollars here. I just went and got a new one with the insurance payout. I would have no problem buying the truck I did without the payout, but I would not have. I would have found something else. I still have a hard time with what I spent on the truck. I do love it and with the 48600 payout, the 62000 out the door price on the new truck wasn't too hard to swallow.

Everyone knows (or should know) their own needs and financial parameters.
I've received some good advice from the people here, and I have tried to reciprocate when I can.
However, there are boundaries that should be recognized.

As I alluded to in this post and previous posts, Yesterday I purchased/put a deposit down on a 2024 Ram 2500. It was priced right and exactly what I was looking for. Crewcab, 4x4, color, 6.4 gas, 3.73 rear end. I paid 23% off MSRP, out the door. I pick it up next week and I’ll follow up with some pictures.

I actually had a 2002 Grand Marquis. Wife wanted it because her mother had one. Bought it just off warranty with like 39K miles. Burnt up a valve at like 90K. Every sensor it seemed. Fuel Pump. AC problems. Mine was clearly built on a late Friday afternoon.

There are definitely people here that like to "share" advice. Just don't take it personally.

I will have been married thirty years on the 25th of the month.
It took awhile for my wife to develop logic in her thought process, but she's much better now.

You do know that Stellantis is a multi-national company. Ram makes up only a small portion of their total sales. Most of their profit center is in Europe so when the corporation reports profits and their stock price you must consider all of this.

I'm seeing Dodge ... er "ram" classics, 2021, 2022 with holes in the rocker panels up here!

Sucks because I've been looking at themm for a 1/2t truck. But don't want something that's going to be rusted out.

The money to pay the UAW workers had to come from somewhere. They will basically be priced themselves out of a job.

It takes two parties to come to an agreement. Management's paid more-- aren't they clever enough to strike a good deal for everybody?

I really doubt that, considering my 2019 looks like it could live on a showroom floor despite having gone through 5 Canadian winters so far.

That doesn't sound right. Our 2011's and 2012's don't have holes and they all have like 200,000 miles on them and Ontario is just as bad, if not worse than NYS.

If I buy one without bubbling rockers I'll get them filled with fluid film ASAP to prevent it. Friend of mine just picked up a 2019 Warlock 1500 and it's perfect. Maybe a bad batch? But a few I've looked at have had bubbling paint on the rockers. I'm assuming off lease being a 21/22 ?

My old F-350 (when my dad had it) had rusty wheel wells on the bed before it was out of 3/36 warranty!

The GMs are crazy with the frame rot! I had a friend working at a chevy dealership who was replacing frame sections under warranty on the 14-19 trucks because of rust.
