Lots of new Ram trucks rotting on dealer lots it seems

I never ask what to buy or what to do on here, it’s an exercise in futility.

I have before but it has been very general, just to garner some ideas.
I'd have to go back years to find the thread that I am thinking of; however, I think that it may have been a mechanical question.
However, it turned into someone else (who doesn't know me) having a better grasp of my needs than myself.
First problem with their suggestion was that I was still working then with a 130 mile/day commute, and a job that required that I was there unless I was dead.
The truck was the backup vehicle if my vehicle was down (which did happen on occasion.)
So unless there is a way to utilize a utility trailer as a daily driver that I am unaware of, it wouldn't have met my needs at the time.

It seems to me people are too quick to misconstrue advice or constructive criticism as a personal attack. What’s wrong with stating one’s opinion if they think it can help someone who might disagree with it? Just using the word impulsive shouldn’t be regarded as a personal attack.

I mean you can't really misconstrue this:

Q: "Hey, I am looking at buying a new truck, I sometimes need to move my ATV and we are looking to buy a boat to go to the lake with. There seem to be some pretty good deals on half-tons right now, while the used market, the prices are ridiculous. Any problems with any of the major brands?"

A: "Can you afford to pay cash for it? If not, you shouldn't be buying anything. New vehicles are a waste of money, full-stop. If used is too expensive, you simply aren't looking old enough. Maybe broaden your search until you can find something you can afford to pay cash for, and ignore creature comforts, if it doesn't have a rubber floor, vinyl bench and roll-down windows, you are looking for a luxury vehicle, not a truck.

But do you need a truck? Too many people own trucks, and it makes it unsafe for other people on the road. You are wasting resources and killing the planet. What are you driving currently? Your signature says you have a 1998 Corolla with 300,000 miles on it, that's a perfect vehicle to fit with a hitch and tow a trailer with. Trailers are much better than trucks, and you are only using more fuel than necessary when you are towing."

I’m currently actively looking for a 1/2 ton truck.

Trucks that were mid $40’s a couple years ago are pushing $60k now.

I simply can’t justify the cost. Everything else in my life has gone up 10-20% without any spending or lifestyle changes.

I’m referring to this thread specifically. People started getting mad after David’s post #211. His post wasn’t that offensive, but people got mad at it. Hence my comment.

Oh… yeah I didn’t read half those posts.

I’m commenting on the OP’s questions about Ram’s etc. staying on the lot.

People lost 10-20% of their buying power in less than 3 years.

Wages sure as heck didn’t keep pace.

Sorry, I replied to the wrong post.

Yep. It has been some young guys that have asked some pretty innocent questions about financing something, or a mortgage, or a credit card to build credit, and the "uphill both ways" crowd comes down on them like a Bikini Atoll nuke test.

True story: I DID walk uphill both ways to and from school. Leave the house headed uphill, then a mostly flat area, before heading downhill to the school. Going home was the reverse...

😁

Obviously a perfect candidate for a Crown Victoria!

This is classic!

If you are upset, then buy a Ram. They are very nice trucks, I've owned several. They need the cash right now apparently.

You forgot "How dare you!"

One penny under invoice isn't a particularly good deal. It's OK, but I'd shoot for $100 under invoice and no doc fees, which is what I got last time.
I do my own tax and tags...they hate that 😁

OK.....AS I said....on this forum one's finances is nobody's business until you disagree with those choices.

BTW-there is new car jealousy on here-not saying you necessarily-but it's more than common on the forum.

I believe people get defensive with their choices and can’t take feedback well.

A crowd justifies not buying new and driving “lessor” vehicles forever paid for. They don’t like being questioned about not what they really wanted. (Went with logical and emotional maybe not)

Another group buys on consumer debt and knows they potentially did not choice on pure logical however emotionally good.

Not sure if jealously but maybe.

My dad was born in 1930 in literally a log home his father built by hand. They didn’t have running water or electricity in his childhood home until after he returned from Korea with a missing leg and other crippling wounds. In spite of his disability he managed to get a degree and worked as a teacher until he wasn’t able to stand for a full day. The man was just as frugal as you would expect a child of the depression to be. He saved mayonnaise jars to use for canning beans and tomatoes. Yet he bought new cars and paid cash for them. He scoffed at the idea of buying used cars. “If I’m going to drive a used car it might as well be my own.” He did buy a used work truck in the late 80s and in a bit of hilarious irony it turned out to be a real clunker.

I was born in 1963 and compared to him I never had a hard day in my life. I bought my first used car in 2021. Prior to 2001 I always bought a new 4x4 truck and traded it for another one at around 100k miles with my reasoning being that since I only had one vehicle I needed it to be as reliable as possible. My wife was exactly the opposite. She bought all her vehicles on credit because she never had the cash reserve to buy new. I didn’t judge her for that…but the first car she bought after we got together was a base Corolla. My thoughts would have been different had she pulled up with a loaded Trans Am.

I guess my long-winded point is that my opinion on credit has evolved to understand that credit is a tool. Like all tools it can be used well or poorly. I feel bad for people who make what I consider to be poor financial decisions, but I’ve come to realize that not everyone was raised in an environment of fiscal responsibility. Some people just don’t know it’s possible to live a financially secure life because nobody they know has ever done it.

I have a 2019 RAM that has been stellar. One of the best vehicles I have ever bought.

The Stellantis bashers won't acknowledge all the problems the other mfgs's have. They have blind hate for Stellantis products.
Do you frequent Allpar and Stellpower like I do?
