Lots of new Ram trucks rotting on dealer lots it seems

I was being hyperbole by using rotting in the thread title. Keep in mind threads rather positive or negative can be helpful to someone. Hopefully someone reading this thread learned dealers have an excess inventory of Ram trucks and can use that to negotiate a better deal.

I use to always buy Rams. My last Ram was a 2021 Power Wagon. I just bought a new truck a few weeks ago, didn’t even consider the new Rams. Screw that new v6.

My "Ego" is just fine with my paid off $92,000 F450.i have a 23" Tacoma v6 4x4 Manual that is paid off too. I have more in my checking account than most in their 401k. To say that a person has a fragile ego because they drive a truck is just sorry. How about what they say about people that drive Subarus, German cars, Hondas and FWD cars in general? It's a two way street, let's not go there.

Ok, inline 6 still wouldn’t buy a gas truck with a turbo 6 engine. How’s that working out for Toyota lol
I guess the counter would be, how has that worked out for Ford with the EcoBoost? I'd say, in general, pretty good (which, is of course a black eye for Toyota, lol).

With regards to trucks, I dislike the proliferation of big cars everywhere on American roads. I don’t appreciate knowing that I am at a safety disadvantage because I’m not willing to DD a thirsty SUV or massive truck. That being said, I hate even worse a government that would mandate people driving small cars, so I say go ahead and drive whatever you want. I simply wished there was a cultural shift away from the vast majority of people driving big trucks and obese SUVs. Don’t take this personal, because you are not the vast majority.

Why stop at pickups or "big cars"? Why not go after all the semis and busses on the road, or even guys driving sports cars that are clearly just there "for fun", every other week on reddit you can find some clown wrapping his exotic around a pole because he thought he could drive it. What about the guys driving mustangs/vettes, not exactly practical and utilitarian and they can be dangerous on the road with all that needless power ripe for abuse.

And then what about all the bikes on the road saying, "I dislike the proliferation of cars on the roads" and they want everyone to get on a motorbike instead.

And then what about the cylists who would prefer even the bikes to get off the road.

Perhaps the problem isn't the proliferation of big cars.

Did you even read the rest of my post? Did you only read the first two sentences and write your response?

And instead of being hyperbolic, I’ll give you a clear image of what I wish for on American roads.

Cost aside - I’d have concerns with buying the first 2-3 years of any new engine. It being a stellantis product gives me additional concern.

With that said - I like the idea of a turbo I-6.

I would be all over a Modern Subaru STI 6spd if they made them. I drive defensive and not offensively no matter if I'm in a Geo metro or Peterbuilt. Watch out for the other guy, drive laid back. No road rage and give the moron, even though he cut you off space. It's not worth the time in the body shop.

Yeah, here it is:

You're worried about safety, second sentence. Read my post again and it should be clear why I wrote what I did.

Ok, well it’s hard to interpret your tone. I wrote that people should be able to drive whatever they want, I only said a cultural shift would be better, and you responded that I should be upset at semi’s, sport cars drivers and go after basically everything else, including cyclists. I want moderation. What you’re citing is not moderation. That’s extreme opposites, which is not helpful at all. This happens a lot.

“I don’t like new tech in modern cars”

“Oh, you must not care about the safety of children.”

Straw man arguments.

You mentioned the safety aspect of small cars vs large cars/trucks, that's a very common complaint but one that is not accurate as I tried to show in my response, there is always someone with a smaller set of wheels (or none) that is going to complain about being unsafe vs larger objects coming at them.

The response to this is not to try and change culture, but to make cars safer (which they have) and or adjust our mindset where we're not all so paranoid about bumping into a truck vs a mazda. Live and live. I get pretty mad easily when people try to change things just because they feel unsafe or worried or whatever it may be. There is no end to that path and worst case scenario we just end up with less freedom and less choice for all.

If everyone drove with their eyes open and defensive, there would be zero accidents...NONE it's a simple concept that is so hard for many to understand. Even in a Geo or Smart, I'll feel safe because my driving, not others driving. If you don't feel safe on the road, it sounds like you need to evaluate your driving style, not others' or their choice of vehicle.
Context: You=general public for my post

Only works if everyone does it, which will never happen.

Here, if you leave 1.2 car lengths in front, someone will take it. If you keep slowing down someone will rear end you.

My sister was sitting at a light stopped for a long time and was rear ended. Guy likely didn't even lift.

I was at a light with my kids - I got just lightly bumped. Turned out 3 cars back got rear ended hard and pushed everyone forward. Mine was just a tap. Waited for LEO. Nice young lady asked me a couple questions, and said I could stay and be part of it, or be on my way. I bid her a nice evening and hightailed it out of there.

, that's a very common complaint but one that is not accurate .

What do you mean? Look what the IIHS says about trucks vs small cars:
“Although pickups are also less of a threat than they used to be, in 2013-16 they were still 2½ times as likely to kill the driver of a car they crashed into, compared with a car colliding with another car (Monfort & Nolan, 2019).”

I get pretty mad easily when people try to There is no end to that path and worst case scenario we just end up with less freedom and less choice for all.
Which is I am surprised you responded the way you did. I made it clear people should be free to choose whatever they want because I also don’t want less freedom at the expense of safety. But the best use of freedom is the considerate use of it. Sometimes people use freedom as an excuse to be rude to their neighbors.

but to be clear, I’d rather be the only guy driving a Corolla in a sea of excursions than in a lake of corollas because the government forced us to.
