Looking for some good 0w-20. Any suggestions?

I am using Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 in my Lexus V-8 engine now, and I am not exactly sure why Toyota has back-specced my same engine in other 1996 Toyota vehicles (mostly trucks) but not in the LS400

they back-specced it to 5W-20 in those trucks from 5w30

I am a bit scared to run the TGMO 0W-20, but perhaps the Mazda High Moly 0W-20 from Idemitsu is nearly the same viscosity at operating temp as the Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 and 5W-20?

better gas mileage is very appealing and I have about the most durable gasoline piston engine ever put into a vehicle with the 1UZ-FE (400K+ miles is quite common)

Is the engine exactly the same as what's used in the LS400?

The Mazda high moly 0W-20 will be a very light oil like TGMO, much lighter than Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20/30.
What you could do is run the TGMO but thicken it up to a 0w30 by adding about 30% Mobil 1 0W-40. This will still provide you with a VI of over 205 the end result being that this light 0w30 will be lighter on start-up than a 5W-20 but with the high temp' protection of a 30wt oil. The best of both worlds.

ME TOO...but I wanted to try a synthetic in the 100k mile Camry I4 since there was a bit of varnishing and sediment on the inside of the valve cover (perhaps due to a clogged PCV valve, since replaced)...

...so I'm trying Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, the same weight range as the OEM specified conventional oil that was in it for 100k....it is running very quietly and smoothly (though no change in MPG) without any leaks or much more burn than the Pennzoil conventional it replaced.

What year is the Camry because IIRC it has been back spec'd to 1996.

I have that exact engine in my 1999 Lexus GS400 and, yes, they will go +400,000 miles. In my last OCI, I ran 5 1/2 quests of Mobil 0W-20. The engine was more peppy. I am currently running one quart of Mobil 0W-40 and 4 1/2 of Mobil 0W-20 (it is a thicker 20 weight). I got five free quarts of Toyota 0W-20 because of a dealership mixup and so plan to run that with one quart of Mobil 0W-40 for my next OCI.

FYI, Toyota of Canda did back spec the V8 in my vehicle to 5W-20. However, I don't believe Toyota did it is in the US???

I have never seen a similar chart for the US, it has always been Canadian. As far as we know no such chart for the US exists. In addition, the chart it is for the use of Toyota oil.

Not that either of those may matter but that's how it is.

See my sig below...yes, it has been "okayed" to use 0w-20, but, Kitacam has been running great with conventional, and rather than add a quart @ 6k miles I have over the past 15 years typically just changed out the oil then...and plan on continuing to do so...and....

1. I'm very conservative when it comes to machines, believing in the maxim "if it ain't broke..."
2. I'm in Florida so 5w is just fine...
3. I couldn't resist the rebate special for Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 + K/N filter for $10/ea, (if both rebates come through), so got 2 and am good for 2 years and 15k miles (3k more to go now + 6k OCI x 2 over 18 months or so)

I just picked up a Toyota 0w20 from a local lexus dealership... looks like the packaging is a bit different from what i saw on one of the threads here in BITOG..

So is this the right TGMO 0w20?

The cases of TGMO 0W-20 that I've been purchasing on Ebay have manufacture item #00279-0WQTE-01 on them.

I guess that's the US part number.. I'm from Canada and I'm looking at my receipt right now and the part number is C0BBA-00w20-0L Engine Motor Oil - Not sure if thats the actual part number for Canada..

I wonder if the US and Canada TGMO 0w20 are the same or different?
