Looking for a new TV

Sort of ironic timing, I just set up my C5 LG OLED this weekend. 65" was the best fit for my room. I have large Definitive Technology towers that it has to fit between (OG BP2000s).

I'm delighted with the image quality. In my basement, I had to actually turn the brightness down to under half so keep it from hurting my eyes. That should help the display life a bit also.

Amazingly, the OLED pulls only 140w of power as a 65" display.

I'm incredibly annoyed at all the "smart" stuff. It shouldn't involve paging through a blinding busy screen to find my PS5 or Apple TV. I don't want to use the apps from any TV maker because 1) they suck, 2) they spy, 3) they're redundant.

When the TV starts, I want it to show my prominently the items I have connected and let me easily choose which source I want to view. This LG is a nightmare on the UI side.

I did see that, LG in BJ's it had an awesome picture, I definitely don't want something, with a difficult user interface..

I did find some workarounds that really helps and gave a near-dumb experience.

Buried in the menu, there's a way to tell the TV to start with the "last source". That completely bypasses their homescreen, the clutter, all the promos and stuff that I hate. I also ensured it has no access to WIFI.

The only source the TV has is the PS5, which we use for all content generation (youtube, Prime, hulu, disney, etc).

This vastly improved the experience. Now I just power up the PS5, the TV starts automatically and I'm seeing the PS5 homescreen. Not a single bit of LG's bloatware interfering.

I had a Samsung Q80B 2 years ago I loved the picture of the TV, unfortunately it broke in the move. I'm looking to purchase a TV, I'm looking to spend no more then $1500.
I would rather stay, with Samsung, LG or Sony.
I say that mid tier price range $1,500 is perfect for any of those three. When it comes to TV's we are Sony people for sure. I also find Sonys product line easy to compare. Meaning it's not a mishmosh of all different models that make it impossible.
Nothing wrong with the other two either.

Good luck in your search.

With no wifi connection, it won't be able to update.
As @rstcso posted, We do much the same. Though we use HDMI from our Roku player to our soundbar which passes through video to the TV that is the only connection to the TV other than a HDMI OTA cable from a Channel Master Tuner with recorder and OTA program guide. I dont need the TV remote. The Roku player turns on and off the TV. I do need to use the TV remote to turn on and off the TV as well as volume when using the Channel Master

I don't connect our TV to our WiFi network. Though I have in the past, connected it to see if there were any updates to the firmware. Once done, if it ever needed it. I then disconnect it.

Hands down the worst TV I ever bought was that POS 65" lg that only gets used by the kids now. My Hisense U6GR blows it out of the water in every single way possible.... Yet they cost the same. Otherwise I was buying a Sony.

Whatever you get, I highly recommend some bias lights for it.

I bought a 75" Hisense U6 series last year. The picture quality is outstanding. Google TV is good but I like Roku better.
Have 4 Hisense TVs... all have been flawless. The one in our beach house is an R7 series and it's going on 8 years old now.

My experience with LG tv is the picture quality is excellent, but the rest is not. The magic remote is the most pain in the xxx to use. I use ears out to a Denon receiver. It is supposed to turn on the Denon when the tv gets turned on, and automatically select sound output. It no longer does that. Even when switching to a soundbar it still wouldn’t work. I’ve come to find this is a common issue with the LG. So normally we just leave it on the subpar TV speaker. We manually change settings for use of the Denon. If I were to do again I’d probably go back to Samsung, as the the other two TVs work flawlessly. Just my experience.

Love LG. Costco. OLED
65" LG oled C5 is now $1399 at Costco and elsewhere. Best picture you can buy. It's bright enough for anywhere except sun shining directly on the screen. My 2016 model just quit so I'm going with this one.

I have an LG C7 and B8 oleds. Both 55". 8 and 7 years old respectively.
Both used daily and have been rock solid from day one.
LG washer and dryer going on 12 years and again, no issues.
I guess I've been lucky.
My C6 just died. I have a C1 that is still beautiful after 3600 hrs.

I'm going to head to Best Buy and take a look around.
I had a neighbor telling me about new LG qned85 model..
I also found my the TV I had, available on Amazon..

Nothing against LG or Samsung. Im just a fan of Sony until, if ever I change my mind. :)
I would also read up on this model or the newer version. Chances are its still widely available though

Sony has a hard-won reputation in screens and displays. They put a lot of effort into that reputation and have held the dominant position in professional video for pretty much my entire lifetime.

The only reason I had to buy a TV is because my Panasonic Plasma from 2011 died.

The other Panasonic plasma in my house is still going. It's from 2008.

I'm still getting used to having a 4k set that's sharp enough to show all the subtle differences in source material. I still think for most people 1080p is perfectly sufficient and 8k is just more marketing baloney because 4k is already higher resolution than most eyeballs at most viewing distances at most screen sizes. Now, if you want to have a 40" computer display you're using from 2 feet away, that's one thing. But how many people plopped in front of a 4k set can make out any individual pixels on any screen size?

Get it at Best Buy. If it messes up you can personally, return it directly to them. 2 things to get right; Back Lit is better than Edgel Lit:; 120hrz is better than 60 hrz Refresh Rate. Other than that I want the most simple TV. Less to Mess Up. I had a Samsung and now have a Sony and wish I had bought another Samsung. I'm still rockin' my Panasonic Plasma from 20 years ago.
