Looking ahead

Totally wiped the floor on Valvoline 10w40 last fall, mostly for free, even made up to $10 per jug with some rebates and clearances.

Thinking about putting it in my Hyundai come May or June, when it gets really nice and hot.

I know 10w40 is a heavy weighted oil, but I'm thinking about thinning it out with some MMO or mixing some 5w20. The Santa Fe specs 10w30 in the summer (anything above 32*F) according to my manual and only 5w30 in the winter time (below 32*F). Granted it also says to use SL oil haha. In reality I suppose the Next Gen 10w40 ain't that far off spec. What would be better to mix it with - a quart of 5w20 to 4 quarts 10w40 or to pour a cup of MMO in the crank case?

Id skip the MMO and just use 1 qt of 5w20 if you have it. If not I'd just run the 10w40 as it gets hot during the summer.

I don't like mixing and would be tempted to use it as is in your summer temperatures.
