LOL. Very true.

Where else can you cover automotive concerns, fix a leaky faucet, get financial advice and ask about your lawnmower all on one site? There's no other place like it.

I've participated on many boards since ~2002. This is the only one I keep coming back to because of the excellent people.

I just had to check.. I'm member # 2050! Man how time gets away from you.

Eh, I dont post as much anymore as most of the questions are asked over and over, plus it seems no-one is interested in tear down results,so I'll keep this knowledge to myself, and let people learn as they want. Things change, and so has this website.

I love seeing tear down info. Also I was on jbody I still pop I'm occasionally. It has fallen off like a rock. I lurked hear for a long time and I'm glad I finally signed up . Ill be 100 years old and still posting here. I love this place and hope it never goes away. Your all great. I've probably drove a few of you crazy but that's what friendship is all about and I'm glad to say I have the best group of friends anyone could ask for. BITOG ROCKS!!! everyone here rocks to let's keep this place going for another decade. We still have lots to talk about. !! Heck I still have a dozen questions on the top of my head that I want answered. We are a dying breed unless we start educating the youngsters now. Cheers to many more amazing posts many amazing people and some great debates have a good one guys!!

Follow-ups, we need more follow-ups!

Nothin' I dislike more is people asking for problem resolutions, there's a few possibilities mentioned, and few, actually post what the fix/issue turned out to be.

I know, lots of folks use this as a one-way street. Come on people, show some courtesy and come back and post the resolution.

I have been a member since 05 and have learned a lot about oil and related subjects. I do feel that if one posts anything that even has a wif of a thought that says anything against thin oil they will be flamed. It's like there is no room left for discussion. You have no room to like anything but thin oil or you are a retard.

The other thing that really turms me off is the people that always answer the question about oil the same way. "Read the manual"! Or "Do an oil analasis". Same answer to almost every question and it gets boring.

One more thing. I have posted some questions about "people problems" and most of the answers are of the "get a life", making fun, or criticizing type of answers and not people really trying to help.

Agreed. I like everyone here, even those with whom I disagree. If everyone agreed on everything, there wouldn't be much of a forum, right?

That's a peeve of mine, too. Anyone who wants to ask a question has to think of two issues. First, one has to consider whether the question has been asked and answered before. Secondly, if one has a question, one can be certain that one isn't the only one with the same question. Other people simply may not ask for one reason or another, but can certainly benefit from the response.

These are two important issues. For the thin oil issue, we have to understand that most manufacturers are going to thinner oils, and, for the most part, it's been successful. With more newer cars on the road, we're going to see more thinner oil requirements by manufacturers and recommendations by posters. It isn't 1960 anymore. That doesn't mean that there is no use for thick oils, of course. I'll stick to 30 and 40 weight oils in my old F-150, but 20w-50 has little place in my G or a new Toyota.

For the second issue, one has to remember that "read the manual" and "get a UOA" are often good advice. Aside from certain troublesome vehicles, simply following the owner's manual on viscosity and specs and OCI is very good advice. We all know that some people think that Wonderlube Brand X at $15 a quart is the "best" lube for their Ford Focus or that they should ignore their OLM and change ever 2,000 miles or 20,000 miles or whatever, all under warranty.

If one wants to extend an OCI, well, a UOA is the best place to start.

Do recall that some of our posters with the most credentials will provide both pieces of advice. Most of those with a great deal of experience do not tend to show brand favoritism (unless there's a reason to prefer a brand, say, because of certain required specifications intersecting what's readily available in the local market).

Seriously, though, this happens on all internet forums. Go back to any old thread (several years old) and you'll see a lot of once-familiar names. Where they go (and why), no one knows.

+1 on John Browning.

I miss steviec, john browning, Doug and johnny but to be honest I really miss Gary the most. He was an interesting guy to get in a conversation with, and a nice one too. I think about him every time I change my (oversized) oil filter. That would sound strange in any other setting.

I miss Gary as well. He was truly an individual.

Other than if someone knows a person away from BITOG, how would we ever know if someone passed away?

We wouldn't.

I've been a member at BITOG since December 2002 and have enjoyed it almost daily. It has helped me keep my sanity in the world of "the daily grind". The nature of the posts have changed as the members increased but it is still enjoyable. I do miss the posts from our earlier members who no longer or rarely post here or are "gone". I hope BITOG stays viable for a long time to come.

You are always going to have people tell you to read the manual and those other things you mentioned..For the most part people here really want to help..At the end of the day someone here will have the correct answer you asked for.

I was a reader on this site long before I actually joined, and it seems like things "shifted" when the site exploded with new members. It is nice that the site experienced growth, but the posts from the core group of experienced people became more diluted.

I miss the folks that had extensive experience with fleet maintenance and heavy equipment. I also miss the folks that would do an experiment just to prove a point. Remember Bob's Escort with no oil filter? Gary Allan's ATF & MMO fuel cocktail?

Speaking of Gary Allan, I haven't purchased any AMSOIL since he passed. I spoke with him on the phone once and found him to be very honest and knowledgeable about the products...without knocking the competition. The same thing goes for Salesrep, but as far as I know he is still alive and well.

On some forums, cynicism creeps in and long-time members keep quiet when newbies ask the same old questions over and over again, because all too often there is some other new guy who will provide an answer, even if that answer is wrong. Eventually the wrong answer starts turning up in Search and the credibility of the entire forum becomes suspect.

How OCOD started.

Funny that you mentioned that. When i posted about my oil high temp test, most responses I got were from mean, but clueless newbies that ridiculed the idea. That turned me off big way from BITOG.
