Agreed. I like everyone here, even those with whom I disagree. If everyone agreed on everything, there wouldn't be much of a forum, right?

That's a peeve of mine, too. Anyone who wants to ask a question has to think of two issues. First, one has to consider whether the question has been asked and answered before. Secondly, if one has a question, one can be certain that one isn't the only one with the same question. Other people simply may not ask for one reason or another, but can certainly benefit from the response.

You have no room to like anything but thin oil or you are a retard.
The other thing that really turms me off is the people that always answer the question about oil the same way. "Read the manual"! Or "Do an oil analasis". Same answer to almost every question and it gets boring.
These are two important issues. For the thin oil issue, we have to understand that most manufacturers are going to thinner oils, and, for the most part, it's been successful. With more newer cars on the road, we're going to see more thinner oil requirements by manufacturers and recommendations by posters. It isn't 1960 anymore. That doesn't mean that there is no use for thick oils, of course. I'll stick to 30 and 40 weight oils in my old F-150, but 20w-50 has little place in my G or a new Toyota.
For the second issue, one has to remember that "read the manual" and "get a UOA" are often good advice. Aside from certain troublesome vehicles, simply following the owner's manual on viscosity and specs and OCI is very good advice. We all know that some people think that Wonderlube Brand X at $15 a quart is the "best" lube for their Ford Focus or that they should ignore their OLM and change ever 2,000 miles or 20,000 miles or whatever, all under warranty.
If one wants to extend an OCI, well, a UOA is the best place to start.
Do recall that some of our posters with the most credentials will provide both pieces of advice. Most of those with a great deal of experience do not tend to show brand favoritism (unless there's a reason to prefer a brand, say, because of certain required specifications intersecting what's readily available in the local market).
