I wanted to put my inquiry to bed so I took @ 30 minutes today to call 3 local Jeep dealers...2 were REALLY sure about what's going on and another seemed lethargic about my questions; here's what I found out...
my dealer, Ladd-Hanford in Lebanon, PA stated that 2012 Lib's use 5w-20 and NO changes were issued by Chrysler; same thing for 2011 Lib's; they use bulk drum Pennzoil conventional or upgraded semi-syn or full syn if customers request; I asked what they used in my vehicle (free oil changes written into the sales contract) and they have used 5w-20 conventional...
another dealer, Brenner in Mechanicsburg, PA confirmed (using my VIN) there is NO change for 2011 Lib's and the 2012's also use 5w-20; they went further by stating a 'recall' would be issued for replacement oil filler caps if indeed a change was made, along with a TSB for dealer use (very, very informative); they also use bulk drum Pennzoil conventional...
another dealer, Freedom in Harrisburg, PA answered with a generic statement about OEM spec'd oil and when I clarified why I called I was transferred to parts for confirmation...the only certain thing they said was 5w-20 and it was 'bulk' and they 'thought' it was Mobil brand; guess that's better than nothing...
so I'm gonna buy a case of Valvoline NextGen 5w-20 on sale @ autozone (and I think they are also offering a rebate in the form of an autozone shopping card)
