30 hours now and no mod or anyone has steped forward with an explanation?????
Look at the MMO thread that was locked. I read all 10 pages and nothing that I could see was offensive. Their was no foul words used or nothing. I too can not predict any more what is is or is not against the rules or what is ok etc.......I am preety smart guy 3.5 or higher in all my college class's and I have no clue any more. I normaly just forget about it and move on. I got in trouble for posting alink to a locked thread. Never mind it had great info and was the only source for the information. Never read anyting in the rules about posting alink to past bitog threads that where locked. So I had no idea I would get in trouble for doing that. I have to admit that the rules are very unclear and one never has a clue if they will or will not be breaking a rule that you do not know about!It does get frustrating at times!
Also I have lately felt that the powers that be would prefer one not to recomend products that work and will fix a problem if they are not sight sponsors. That is like asking a doctor to only prescribe medicine that they own stock in!!! Not really good for the patient's best intrest. I do recomend plenty of Amsoil and Lube Control when I think it is best for the job.
Obviously the above are just my perceptions not saying they are fact. Often perception is not entirely valid since their can be factors you did not know about. I think a lot of very smart and experinced people are self censoring at this point and are not even bothing to answere a good bit of trafik. A lot of recomending serching the archieves since they can not get in trouble for telling someone to read past post's on the subject matter and hoping they come to the right answere.
In the end the owner of sight can do as they like since they own the site. It would though be nice if they would explain why a thread was being locked. I have always appreciated honesty and if it is because it is not a sponor and it is about money that is fine just tell me that. I have never like being lied to or treated liked a mushroom! I like wise try not to break rules if I know what they arepbviosuly some common sense in in order for some things since you can not have a rule for everything! Since so many threads go no place I dare say that 10 pages of no-place is nothing by bob is the oil guy standards look at how long the German Castrol thread is and much of that after the testing that was done is junk but last I checked it was still open. It has to be above 100 pages by now. So why is that one still open it is a waste of band width if every their was a waste of bandwidth.

In the end I am not going to lose sleep over it but I do understand the reason for asking!

In fact even worse then the locking butnot as bad as the serch function is the word nanny that censors stuff. It would be ok if a human was doing it but the software is about as stupid as it gets. It does not take context into consideration at all. It is like having an Ultra Conservative Book Burning Christian type selecting the vocabulary. Nothing against Christians either I am one but can not stand the types that want to burn Huck Fin and other classics! The censorship nanny is a pain because it really goes too far. If I mention that I had a Chicken Breat sandwhich the word following CHicken is going to be blanked out even though it is not used as a vulgar term at all and is on millions of family dinner menu's across the country even if owned by the Book Burning types! One could easily use medical terminology and get around it and be as vulgar as one wanted or use latin or greek etc.....It would have no clue and most on this board probably would not get it either unless they had medical terminology back ground or trained in Greek or Latin. I am not advocating swearing and mean spirited hate and such only saying that words have many meaning and context is far more important then the word itself. Terms like Rock N' Roll and Wildthing both where considered vulgar terms when they first came out but I bet the nanny allows them. I am going to go have a Chicken Pector Alis Major and Minor sandwhich now!LOL
In the end since this is a privately owned site you just have to deal with it if you want to use the site. I tend to laugh at this stuff for the most part so while it would concern me if a public or governmental site did these things it does not bother me when a private owner does them. Since the site is under far different ownership then it was when it first got started one can not really hold it to the same standard as different people will will have a different take on things then Bob did. It is not my place to tell someone how to use their own property as long as it does cause me harm. So I would recomend just taking a deep breath and learnig to laugh everything has to be taken into account by the difference each person has in perspective.

Only mods and Admin. The purpose of quarantine is to take offensive posts out of circulation and out of sight. A search of quarantine is also useful to the mods to determine if a person is being a serial jerk.
The process of moderating is far from perfect, it depends very much on complaints of other users. Most moderators are also not going to spend a lot of time straightening out a thread that is full of spew. It's quicker to just lock it or put it in quarantine.
I agree the censor software can be annoying, but it's as tight as it is because a minority of users keep pushing the limits and that results in additions to it. The best approach is to be amused by it's occasional goofiness and maybe thankful that it keeps some of the worst stuff off the site, defusing a lot of arguments in the process.

In this case, would it not be easier and more beneficial to the rest of the majority (and since the threads are in 'quarantine' anyhow), to just weed out those "Minorities" that are causing the issues to begin with, and leaving the good information in the thread for the rest to use and enjoy? Seems a majority of posts that get locked or 'disappear' are usually caused by the same few people over and over. Leaving the rest of us to lose good info that other parts of the thread may contain. JMHO, of course...
