Just get any security lock, put up cameras and get a dog. Once they see that key way they will move on to the next mark.

I'm not worried about the unlicensed lock-smith type guys but with China selling lock-pin type guns cheap and Youtube full of bump key how to videos I just want to safeguard against that. The lock-smith type guy if he's going to go through the effort of something like a Mul-T-Lock then so be it.

But on the other hand that is why I thought a Mag lock etc. Something that can't be picked.

My windows aren't big enough to fit through and the ones that are high up off the ground requiring a ladder.

Got the alarm but the cops take forever to get here, it's more just so I know something is happening at home as it will notify me.

That's an idea. I would probably want something with a couple of different sound bites so it doesn't sound obviously repetitive.

Mag locks can lock you inside, they must be installed with proper emergency exit controls. Same goes for any jury-rigged system you might attach to the deadbolt inside lever.

All the doors except one should have a bar on the inside to resist opening from the outside either by picking the lock or kicking the door in.

The front door has the long handle like this though... It wouldn't look right if you saw the door. (Example below)

Thanks for the suggestion though. I think I'm just going to do the Mul-T-Lock.

You'd need a lot of skill, a lot of time and luck. Anyone looking to break into a random house is going to see that and move on to some worn out 5 pin Kwikset, Schlage or Weiser. You Canadians like Weiser almost as much as you like your minivans and Labatt Blue.

There are multiple keyways (style of key blank) that are geographically restricted. Your local Mul-T-Lock dealer wouldn't have it in stock and would need to special order it, resulting in him pretty much telling you to buzz off.

Thanks for clarifying... I'll be sure to order some extra keys to keep in the safe should I need them at time of ordering the locks.

The Chrysler Minivans are made here in Ontario and there is a ton of them running around. Now that I own them I can't go 10 minutes without seeing them on the highways/roads etc.

I also don't like Blue or what is considered "domestic", I like import like Stella or Heineken and similar more bitter bears. Although we have a Heineken plant in Quebec.

I like Stiegl if I can find it.

Kicking house doors open, and breaking windows to break-in are easier and faster than picking a lock. Or even glass cutting if don't want to make lots of noise. Lock picking might work for cat burglers that break-in while people are sleeping.

My door can't be kicked in easily. It has reinforced door jams with steel plates and long screws into the framing studs and into the door hinges as well. It's also solid wood with steel front/back/sides. I have no windows that can fit people through them due to their design on the main floor and the ones that can are higher up and would require a ladder but yeah I agree on those points.

I know nothing I do will keep them out if they want in but I can slow them down or have them choose someone else to go after because I've taken enough steps to discourage them is all.
