Lets talk about new vehicles

Got a question answered directly. I let my VW sit for a few weeks and when I drove it the stop-start system wouldn't activate even though it was not deactivated. It took 3 days of 20 mile drives before it worked again.
Neat...I usually deactivate it anyway but it answered the question that in the event of a weak battery I certainly hoped the car would electronically sensor it and it did.

Interesting. Alfa Romeo's do the same thing.

I actually liked the stop start on the Jetta at first, over time I got in the habit of turning it off on startup though. VW's stop start is pretty good, it's not hard at all to learn how to control it without the button. If you don't want it to turn off, just keep your foot very lightly on the brake or give the steering wheel a tiny nudge.

Around 2021 when we bought my wife's Edge I first offered her a brand new Tiguan. She liked it but then absolutely flipped out over the stop start and I couldn't get her to understand. Total female no understandee mechanical thing freaked. Game over, no Tiguan. :(

She ended up with a used Edge over the new Tiggy. Worked out fine, she loves the Edge, and we ended up doing some towing and the 3.5 V6 is a better choice for that than a turbo 4 anyway IMO.

Yeah the VW is nice.
Only in a drive thru do I kill it because it's too much. Other than that I leave it be.

I was going to buy a Pathfinder until the Maverick became available. I was going with the Rock Creek edition and thought I may trade the tires into the dealership for less aggressive ones.
It had the features I wanted without the Platinum cost. Very nice vehicle. Congratulations 🎊 👏

Thanks. They are playing games with the military discount but I am hoping to work through them.

I must be getting old; at present there isn’t anything I would rather have than the cars on my side of the garage. That said, I may yet add a classic musclecar or M Car…

That's a great thing.

I just did a timing belt on a 2006 Honda Odyssey. After I did the belt i test drove it, and I actually enjoyed driving it. It was fairly nimble and had enough power and the seat was comfortable although adjusted by the owner. It was loud inside though. If I bought one it would get some sound deadening on the firewall and floor up front.
If I was a traveling salesman or something and was on the road lots and needed lots of arm room, assuming the new Honda Odyssey is as comfortable and nimble as my 08 and 09 was, the Honda would be my choice over any car however, I don't remember the gas mileage being very good.

I wonder if Honda has addressed front end noise on the newer cars? My moms 2015 accord still had that signature Honda front end road noise. I remember on Hondas going back to 1978, you hear the front end... I don't like that.
I own a 17 Ford Fusion that rides almost silent. If Ford can do it Honda can...

Perhaps its just me but I liked the look of my 09 Honda Odyssey and not a fan of the new look as that back side window lines don't look pleasing to my eye.
I think the new Toyota mini van looks more like my 09 Honda than the new Honda does,,, But to this day I miss my old 09 Honda when I take the family on a trip. I miss the comfort and the room!

All minivans suck at mpg. Never has a handier family vehicle been built though!
Brick with wheels ... dirty aerodynamics is a big factor. If there was no atmosphere to push through, vehicles would be getting 3x+ better fuel mileage, mostly at highway speeds.

I know, I know a rehash.. the Maverick really gets me with its mpgs. It's a box too but gets incredible mpgs

We had an Astro for a long time that averaged 15. Then a Chevy Venture that averaged 19. Then a Kia Sedona that averaged 19 (best van of the three by far). My sister had long time ownership of a Toyota Sienna, yep it averaged 19.

A hybrid minivan like the Maverick could be game changing. Won't see it though because minivans are not trendy enough, all the new mommas just have to have an SUV.
