I watched a YouTube video the other day about a VW Arteon SEL R- line with 4motion.
Guy complained about the need for premium gas... Said about a dollar more a gallon. Yeah I get it but then he said.." This is ridiculous because this car is not a luxury or near luxury car..."
Really???? That car is pretty loaded on that trim.

My VW dealer....
When i was at the dealership buying they tried several fast ones on the contract. That was noted here as very frustrating. The day I was buying they were being sold to another big automotive group.
Fast forward when my tags came in they said come and get them. I said just send them as I am 40 miles away. They overnighted them.
Seems like weekly I get a check from them over 3 months and today I got a check for only $6.50 because they say I over paid on tags...
Biggest check was just over $200.
The little checks keep coming...weird.

Dude is an idiot. It's VW's flag ship sedan, close to Audi money and at worst it's definitely "near luxury". Any time spend on the VW Vortex Arteon forum will reveal many, many Arteon owners cross shopped Audis before landing on the better value of the VW. Biggest difference is you can get steep discounts on the Arteon much harder to do on an Audi.
I put premium in my base model Jetta and could care less. He needs to get a clue.

Someone else here said indirectly that I guess VW is not an old established luxury brand. I guess it you threw around Lincoln and Cadillac and the like he would jump to the label of luxury... Maybe he has little Euro experience.
I have had several Lincoln's and they have nothing on upscale VW's...and certainly not the driving experience..
I have had many Acuras and can't think of any that came off as luxury to me. But they are often labeled as such...
To me luxury means little...even a base Arteon feels far more expensive than it is...not looks wise because even Kia does that well but drives like a premium car.. Exciting, sounds good and makes you want to drive it.
Another positive to me is nobody except VW owners knows what it is or cares and you can go about your day anon.... And it is priced like an economy car...
I've seen Lincolns described as "near luxury" in auto write ups. I'm not sure who decides what's luxury or not, manufacturers like Acura, Lincoln etc. sure think they are luxury.
I had a Lincoln, really nice car toys on it I could never have imagined, everything worked too but it wasn't VW solid or smooth. I'd buy another if everything aligned.

First (?), a check for a penny from some shady investment, now this? Really?
Maybe a trip to Vegas and sign up for MGM Rewards or something? Heck, you may get meaningless checks from now on...

Ding a ling. Since when is an Arteon a "common car". I can go for months without seeing one, and I watch. And he doesn't understand why a German turbo needs premium? Time for him to move onto Kia's or something.
He is right in that VW is not a "luxury brand", for me that's part of the appeal. Impressive car, no snobbery.
There is a new MB suv in my lot at work being driven in by a young male. It has a basketball sized MB emblem across the grill, inches away another emblem on the hood and still another pinned on the right side of the grill a bit away from the basketball. Talk about "be sure to notice my Benz!"
