I pulled a sample of the LE 10W30 at about 2,000 miles. I haven't decided when I'll change this oil, but at 2K miles it looks pretty strong. What do you think?

DCRamsey, have a couple questions for you...
1. What year is your Avalon(i.e. is it one of the "sludge-prone" years)?
2. I've never heard of Lubrication Engineers brand oil, is it a synthetic?
Just based on the numbers given, the oil looks pretty good. We have an 02 Avalon and never go over 3,000 miles(even with a synthetic) because the 3.0L V-6 is hard on oil and prone to sludge.

2008 Tourong Model. LE 10W30 is a blend. 8130 http://www.le-inc.com/products.jsp?productID=246
A heavy-duty, SAE 10W-30 engine oil designed for all-weather performance in gasoline and diesel engines. All season performance for effective cold cranking at low ambient temperatures and excellent performance at high temperatures.

All season performance
Effective cold cranking at low ambient temperatures
Excellent performance at high temperatures
Unique blend of select synthetic and paraffinic base oils
Contains MONOLEC®, LE's exclusive wear-reducing additive

Since it is a 2008 model, I don't see why you couldn't go 4,000 miles on that oil. Thanks for the link to the LE oil's site; seems like good stuff! My only hesitation would be using a 10w-30 versus the usual 5w-30; other than that, keep running that oil.

Ditto CougarRed. Thanks for posting. This is slowly becoming one of my favorite engine oils for my vehicles (I've been using it for a couple three years in two of them). The only downside is that I get some start-up noises in my Tundra V-8 when temps drop to freezing. So their "cold cranking effectiveness" comment is a reach IMO. Regardless, it shows great wear control under hot or cold conditions based on my UOA's so far. I think you'll be impressed with this oil too.

There's quite a bit of difference in viscosity. Will your engine care? Maybe, maybe not.

Consider Valvoline's Durablend, just as an example:

http://www.valvoline.com/pdf/Durablend.pdf

5W-30 at 40*C (which is 104*F) is 57.9 cSt.
10W-30 at 40*C is 71.5 cSt.

LE's 10W-30 compares unfavorably at 77.3 cSt at 40*C.

That's a large difference that will only get larger as temperatures fall. 100*F is about as hot as a cold crank ever gets in North Carolina (I live in Fayetteville). What you're really interested in is viscosity at 30, 40, 50*F (which is not a standard measure).

I'm sure LE is a fine oil, but personally, I'd use a 5W-30 in your Avalon. I don't see any reason to use a 10W-30. Does LE make an equivalent 5W-30?

I've been thinking about using a 5W30 weight as I run out of LE 10W30. I'm thinking Valvoline Synpower, Quaker State Ultimate Durability or Pennzoil Ulta. As Ultimate Durability and Ultra are cousins are they more alike than different in formulation?

Let's not forget that the VOA of LE 10W30 shows 2 ppm iron. So the wear results were actually:

2 iron
1 copper
1 alum
0 lead
0 tin
0 chrom
0 titanium
0 silver

I've got to talk with WearCheck about the TBN. I haven't seen any MPG difference between this and the RLI 0W20 I ran. The wear numbers are very favorable with the LE.
The LE is red out of the bottle, like Schaeffer's.

DC-the Schaeffers #703 10W-30 I use is light green out of the bottle. Is that what you meant to say?

Although I like #703 and think it's an outstanding product, I think 8130 is even that much better with wear control and stays in grade a whole lot better.

I remembered it wasn't clear, you're right Schaeffers is a pale green.
For me it was more trouble getting Schaeffers than LE.
Thanks for the vote of confidence with the LE.
