Lake Speed Junior High Zinc Oil new video

It is the combative language of some here that hurts their credibility. It is an oil board I get it, but being civil goes a long way. A few here are part of a gang seems like, their job is to support each other's views at all costs. Like @kschachn is absolutely clueless about the inner workings of the Toyota Dynamic Force engine. But as a newcomer if you correct him, you get attacked by the rest of the gang members. That's not fair. Being a newcomer on this board doesn't mean you don't know anything.
This is true, but give and get respect too, you know?

Trust me, I tried my best until I couldn't lol. They keep coming at you even when you said something sensible 😆 it's a game of disagreement for the sake of disagreement seems like

I just don’t get it. They come here with some kind of grudge. Then the more they learn about oil, the more they appreciate an oil like Amsoil SS.
I think the Amsoil fanboys are off-putting for some people (check out Bearded Ford Tech or that Eben guy on YT...they aren't doing Amsoil any favors), although they shouldn't confuse the fanboys with the quality of the product. And the heavy marketing and MLM nature of the product sales as well. However, it does appear that they back the marketing up with an excellent product.

ALL -

Civil discourse is acceptable, perhaps even useful, on BITOG. Unfortunately, this is going off course not unlike some other recent threads.
Bickering and taunts are unacceptable and will land you in trouble. So knock it off, please.

Yes, please, guys we don't need another thread deleted.

That’s fair. I’ve stepped away from most other forums and those types of people. We are spoiled here with @Pablo!

LSJ said he was about to do this video in the Sprinter Fix diesel-centric video I posted in the Mechanical Forum.

A most beneficial balance of zinc, moly, and calcium, in the optimum forms, was obtained.

So this new 10W30 Mobil 1 High Zinc looks like an interesting oil.
Apart from the elevated Zinc levels, it looks to have an SQ add pack, alkylated naphalenes and is shear free or non VII.
I wonder how well it would work in specific applications like wear of old school 5/32 iron rings with lots of fuel wash from a carburator.

For me, the bottom line is that it's pretty much the same oil as M1 15w50, just in a 10w30 grade that prevents its additive ratios from qualifying for the same API SP that the 50 is allowed to receive.

IMO, that's ideal. A lot of us have been running marginally too-heavy oils in our classics for years. 10w30 is exactly what both my 440's need. My Jeep 360 on the other hand kinda needs the 15w50 with its less than stellar oiling system and general worn-out condition
. :-/

I agree, this would be a great oil for my old American V8s. I hope the offer in Canada, as the 15w50 is way too thick for my engines/climate.

It's been discussed on here that today's 10W-30 oils are often formulated with less than stellar base stocks resulting in the use of an excess of VII. For the application you reference an Euro 5W-30 or 0W-40 with a minimum 3.5 HT/HS and an approval such as Mercedes-Benz 229.5 or Porsche A40 would be ideal.

Those oils will still most likely be SP and have lower zinc levels. While LSJr points out in his video this is fine for older engines, consumers preferring higher zinc levels now have the 10W30 high zinc option, with non VII base stock with AN no less.
Also wondering what applications it would suit, 1200 to 1400 ppm zinc certainly isn't extreme. Could probably run in a healthy modern engine without issue.

A40 required ZDDP levels would be sufficient for this and nearly any application.
