Who agrees? Is there any real truth to Lake's theory here about fuel/oil? I know for a fact we have have some very experienced chemical/mechanical engineers here as well as some tribology experts who can agree or debunk.

#1 - This guy has a ton of videos. I can/must confess that many of them can make my head hurt! LoL.
#2 I knew of Lake's race car driver (sometime mech) dad and have respect for the both of them (experience & training) in their respective professions.
#3 My feelings in no way proves anything about them or their ideas, experiences or feelings.
#4 I have always suspected the theories Lake shares in this video had some validity.
#5 I am sure my thoughts on this could be laughed at and argued till the cows come home. Yet......I think I have found a video (here) that kind of backs up my thoughts about fuels/oils and effects on engine wear/protection inside of GDI-Turbo engines that experience fuel/oil dilution.

I have wondered in the past if there was synergy in filling up with the same brand fuel as the oil in use, ie Exxon fuel if running Mobil 1 oil. Maybe my thoughts on this are more rational than they seemed.

Probably not. But Mobil1 and Shell do add a friction modifier package in their premium gasoline that is not present in the regular and mid level octane. This is branded Synergy Premium+ and V-Power NITRO+. I’m not to worried about octane numbers but I am very interested in these gasoline additives which no doubt are coming from Infineum

My thoughts were always mostly along the lines of the quality of the fuel than the brand. In other words, the octane + the quality of the additives certain fuels get mixed with. Just always attempted to fuel up with brands that I think are "top tier" for the area where I purchase fuel from. Could be some benefits from that habit besides spending more than one has too? All I can go by is the knowledge of never having any fuel system issues at all. In addition is the really great mpg we experience in both vehicles.

With Shell when you fill up with 89 octane you get 10 gals regular, WITH 5 gals Shell Nitro Premium. I know because at two Shell stations I checked they only have two underground tanks, reg 87 and Premium 93. To get 89 you mix the two. So you are getting some of the friction modifier package stuff.

I think the guy is intelligent, and he knows what he's talking about. And he does his research. But with that said, he is very hard to listen to. Much like Scotty Kilmer.

I think most of what he says is true, and his research does seem to back it up. But does any of it means anything in the long run? I doubt it.

^^^ I agree!
Quirky people such as Lake & Scotty can be difficult to listen to for a length of time. However, this doesn't mean that they don't know their stuff.

Scotty Kilmer for example; he knows his stuff and has his own years of experience but can be difficult to listen to. I believe him based on his own experience but there are others in the same line of work that will have a different opinion based on their own experience.

Lake Speed Jr. on the other hand shows actual data. He can speak of his own experience all he wants but, it's the actual data that means anything to the viewer.

I like YouTubers. They take the time to film, compare, edit & publish their findings beyond anything that I am going to do myself. It's up to us to sift through the data or BS. It's up to us!

David S. Lifton(1939-2022) said it best in "Best Evidence"[speaking of the JFK Assassination] :
"What you believe depends on which evidence you believe".

Already discussed ad nauseam here ...
