Were you running Dollar Giant 10w40 at 20K OCI's? LOL

So, warranty is voided, but do you still have the car and are you able to manually clean it? Take as much time as needed or possible for ALL manual cleaning you can get to. Then stick to short OCIs with Kreen + PYB. Change out the oil filter at 500-1,000 miles and inspect the element for rate of build up of particulates still in the oil. One Kreen doesn't get much crud easily detectable in the media, then back to regular/short OCI with a high quality lube.

...but yes, history of OCI/oil if you don't mind?

Bought the car that way with 95K miles. No history on oil or changes. Car ran great but the check engine light was on. No idea of any sludge until they took the covers off. Cleaned everything by hand in about 8 hours with toothbrushes, q-tips and brake cleaner.

Sold it a year ago and never heard back about it yet.

No of course not.

He was running USED Dollar General 5w-30!

IMO....maybe there was a coolant leak or a faulty PCV system to generate that much sludge. The owner may have been running extended drains.....after paying for high quality synthetic and never realized that he/she had a problem non-oil related.

Who knows the real history....the prior owner may have relied on a quick lube for all of his oil changes? And they "forgot" to change the oil on a few occasions.....

The possibilities are endless.......

The concern with that much sludge is that it would dissolve as much as it can hold and maybe loosen more which could clog the oil pump pickup and starve the engine of oil.

Nice clean-up job. A totally neglected engine by the previous owner. Kreen was not going to clean that up, in fact nothing that I'm aware of aside from tearing it down and hand cleaning it would work.

+1. Kudos to the effort spent on the clean-up job.

When I brought the car in the Cadillac dealer said the timing chains job is covered under warranty. After they took the engine apart, they wanted $2500 to do the timing chains and sludge removal. I hauled it out of there and did it myself for about $600 in parts.
