Kirkland signature synthetic oil

Mobil did some fairly extensive testing to validate the advertised 20K mile drain interval and their additive technology has generally been well-ahead of the competition. I am not too familiar with Castrol, but they are fairly respected on the OEM side so I would expect that they did their homework as well.

ST is a private label product so…
Yeah it's a private label, but you would think that Warren oil company, did the research, probably not as extensive as Mobil or Castrol, considering they are both highly recommended, by OEM.

Now with Quaker State and Pennzoil are they virtually the same oil? Or is Pennzoil a better oil? Obviously Pennzoil Platinum I would take is a totally different additive package. But I see on here, where people claim, they burn more oil with Pennzoil vs any other brand. 🤷🏻‍♂️

From your previous posts about Pennzoil (twice mentioning the "sludge" thing), it appears you really wish to disparage the brand. Why is that?

Also looking over your posts you don't seem much interested in a cogent technical discussion based on facts.

Obviously I'm interested if I'm still here. So I haven't just abandoned the post. Obviously I'm looking to learn from here.

One thing I’ve learned is air filter efficiency is far more important than oil
Probably true, in a dusty environment. OTOH I had a buddy who ran a 283 Chevy for 80,000 miles with no air cleaner at all and it ran fine. (That was back when 100,000 miles was considered useful life of an engine). But it was in Cleveland OH where it's often wet.

For wear perhaps (and only abrasive wear), but a motor oil has to do much more than just prevent wear such as oxidation resistance, shear stability, and deposit control. These are the things that approvals, specifications and licenses prove in terms of performance. Oil in and of itself doesn't really do much in terms of preventing abrasive wear from a poor air filter.

Amazon is also out of stock quite often, I don't know if it has something to do with the new ownership or what? I don't know what I'm switching to next time..

As a general rule I doubt they are that far off the mark.Generally the additive companies and the majors that sell a blender basestock did some pretty extensive testing as well. Now as to some of the 20,000 mi claims while I'm sure it's true of some cars but I doubt ether Mobil or ST is capable of it in all cases.

It is true however that Mobil and Shell are likely to be a few years ahead on technology. The question is how beneficial is a low LSPI oil for instance for a car that calls for API SH?

Today at the Issaquah, WA Costco store. $32.99 it would seem some Costco stores are holding people up. Still $32.99 at the store I go to.

They’ve not restocked my local Costco in idk how many weeks. There were 3 boxes of 5w-30 left and a bunch of 0w-20 and 15w-40.
