Here is what the Kia 2020 Sportage OM has to say :
Theta II 2.4L GDI engine (5 qrts.) 5W20 , 5W30 and 10W30 acceptable . From experience , I believe best to run a synthetic 5W30 or 10W30 oil (warmer climates above 15 degrees F.) for added film strength and protection from fuel dilution DI engines are known for .
The Theta II 2.0L Turbo GDI engine (5 qrts.) recommends 0W30 , 5W30 , 5W40 , 15W40 and 20W50 (no 5W20 oil !) . Most people have the best protection and success using the 5W40 synthetic oil in the Sportage 2.0 L turbo engine . For the Sportage non - turbo 2.4L engine it is best to keep your OCI at 5,000 miles max / 6 months (wherever comes first) . With my 2.4L non - turbo engine I prefer 4,000 miles max / 4 months (but that is in large city / suburban driving conditions). In the Sportage 2.0L turbo engine you should keep to 4,000 miles / 4 months max (whichever comes first) as the 2.0L turbo is pretty hard on oil ... As for oil brands I would consider starting with Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W30 or 5W40 from Walmart (depending on Sportage engine) . Later you can then explore Mobil 1 , Valvoline , Pennzoil , etc. synthetic oils - but rest assured your Sportage engine will do very well with the lower Priced Quaker State Full Synthetic oils ... My Dad uses 5W30 synthetic and still got the code for engine knock. Engine still runs fine.

I'd also reccomend 0w-30 or 5w-30 in 2.4 GDI and 0w-40 or 5w-40 in 2.0 TGDI.
I'm running 0w-30 VW 504/507 oil in my Sportage and Forte lately and am very happy with results, both cars called for 5w-20 from oil cap and in manual. Running Pennzoil Euro LX and QS Euro LX, imho the oil is better than Penn Plat Ultra.
I'd also reccomend 0w-30 or 5w-30 in 2.4 GDI and 0w-40 or 5w-40 in 2.0 TGDI.
