K&N question

The Volvo I drive takes a cartridge filter. I'm completely sold on the OE style filter.

Volvo, Hengst and Hummer-Mann are the names they wear. Purolaters and even WIX filters seem of a softer cloth but I have no knowledge of their relevant quality or efficiency.

Enter the K&N Pro-Series filter (p/n PS-7002). It's about $3 cheaper than OE. Is that all I need to know?

Do you think it'd be better than the "harder style" OE filters or worse?

I'd hate to be suckered by a hyped up aftermarket brand. Kira

Continue to buy the OE filters, you can be sure of the quality. I have not seen anything to convince me that ANY K&N product is the equivalent of or superior to OEM.

Save $3 elsewhere.

I would avoid K&N since I don't like their air filters, I am thinking their oil filters might focus on flow vs filtering.

Apologies for not being clear. My question (and that part number) was about an oil filter.

Since I posted K&N got back to me and stated that they had no micron rating data.

I'm going OE or OEM.

Also, in an unrelated matter, I'm going to stick with OE cabin air filters because my car has the IAQS option which sniffs the filtered cabin air.
I figure the sensor is calibrated to a quality filter.

They used to be good, now just 3rd world made junk, unfortunately.

Every so often, I buy a case of oil filters from IPD...at $50 for 10 filters, you can't beat the price and the quality is excellent.

I don't see a reason to buy K&N or any other hyped brand.

Take the $3 and buy a filter minder. When the flow goes down to change it you will know it's time to replace with a factory filter

Wow ... nice response form a company that is in the business of designing and making filters.

I'd buy something else based on that alone.

They do have the data it's just not available to the public because when they stopped making them in the USA they reduced the quality of the media to save a few pennies and didn't think anyone would notice.

Some of those filters may be re boxed from other manufacturers. I wouldn't use any K&N oil filters unless it was from Germany or USA. The Korean and Mexican ones are a rip off value wise for what you get. If you want inferior filtration you might as well by a white box part from China

I bought german made mahle filters for 2004 T6 from rock auto for under 2 dollars each. Had 3 sent and a cabin air to make the shipping worth it lol. Mahle Ox149d

Of course they don't work on oil filters ... they are meant for air filters.

Hello, I started this thread before I asked K&N about their filters' efficiencies.

THIS IS WHAT I ASKED:
Hello, My vehicle calls for a K&N PS-7002 Pro-Series cartridge oil filter.
Do you have a spec sheet on this filter? I am interested in the efficiency of the filter.
The percentage of filtration at various micron sizes is the body of specs I'd like to see.
