If you were in the market for a "Lifetime" air filter which one of the two would you buy and why?Are they really equal?i just installed a AirAid modular air intake tube with a AFE OEM air filter and I must admitt that my 2006 Jeep Hemi 5.7L is a bit louder and throttle response is better. Thanks Joe

AFE is much better. Especially the drop in filters; totally better polyurethane bump seal, no bleed into the media, better and more media.

The AirRaid filters are even better - 5 layers of gauze instead of 4 (both K&N and AFE use 4, but AFE's simply look beefier).

Wetted gauze filters let in too much dirt into your engine. Would never use one if engine wear was important.

Noise I believe. Throttle response? Maybe on WOT at best since the butterfly valve is the largest restriction in the system (by design). So unless you modded the valve somehow...

Do you have any proof of this?

Do you have links to used oil analysis, which conclusively prove there was excess silicone, caused by running a K&N filter?

You keep saying the same thing in all the k&n threads. I'm guessing you use a k&n filter? Have you yourself compared all used oil analysis?

K&N filters wont kill an engine drastically, but they are inferior when it comes to filtration. The degree of importance the difference plays is totally up for debate.

i have afe's cold air intake on my vic and expy and i really don't care about performance which is excellent with these setups i just like to make it easy air and easy air out my 2.5 inch exhaust with xpipe

That's funny, and here I had noticed that mpgcaps20 has made the same unsubstantiated claim in as many threads.

I just asked for some proof is all. Is that a problem?

I have ignored nearly ever thread about K&N filters. I have also ignored some about ARX.

How come you are so good at spin?

Its not just a case about silicon measured in parts per million.
Which is usually small any way, and some times can be difficult to account how the silicon got into the oil.

It more to do with cost, truth about restriction in an intake system, hype about certain products, removing potential points for contamination of oil, street use versus race use and lack of OEM data supporting your claim.

The link below may help I have seen it before in this section, it may help to explain some varying points of view.

I have a K&N Apollo CIS filter. It is an enclosed air box that connects directly to my ram air scoop. It is well made, and it works very well for me. If I could find a foam cone filter element, that would fit that unit, I would definitely get one though.

disclaimer:

I agree that K&N's hype really is offensive, and their performance increase claims are very exaggerated.

You posted the exact same message in two threads within minutes just the other day asking for proof.

...... because they were in response, to the exact same bogus claim, made by mpgcaps20 in as many threads.

By the way, ... that same poster has a total of 5 posts, 4 of which are unsubstantiated anti K&N filter rumors.

All 4 those, were made on the same day, and they were all made within minutes of each other.

So why don't you complain about that?

I like the build quality of S&B filters over that of K&N. Much better construction IMO. That being said, I have them on two vehicles (one with a stock air box) and silicon numbers on the used oil analysis are well within universal averages and are nothing to be concerned about. Good Enough for me :)

If AEM made a dryflow in the cone filter size I needed I'd put one in my RMS...

I'm not complaining in the first place.
