Not if your car is lowered or you have some really bad roads, if it opens randomly or becomes damaged you're pretty much boned.

Nice- i have a fumoto valve on my honda and the drain bolt faces the rear and does not jut under the vehicle. If my drain valve were to get damaged- i would have bigger problems like a sheared off oil pan. The only way the valve on my car would get damaged if i went airborn or hit somethign that would cause me to lose my oil pan. I am not saying it might be a little more precarious in other cars but on hondas you would have bigger issues if you hit something to damage the valve.

Also have you ever tried to open one? Not a flimsy valve- and for the truly paranoid- you can buy a retaining clip.

I have had my valve for 9 years and no problems.

Seen so many overtightened filters and bolts in my day. Mostly from dealerships.

My experience exactly!

My other "added value" was when the Honda dealer cross threaded ALL EIGHT front lug nuts and studs which was a costly and annoying repair adventure.

as for the PK520....I'm guessing it means
Peak 5w-20.

Also the OP ought to return to the place that aped his drain pan bolt on and complain about it to the shop owner or manager. Let them know that you'll be telling aquaintances, friends ,and family that they will never have that business.

I am willing to bet it is a Parts Kit. When we were on Reynolds and Reynolds Management Software we had Parts Kits.

The part would be listed at PKFL820A, and it would autmotically bill out an FL-820S and 6 quarts of 5W30. I also had a PKFL820S and it would bill out an FL-820S and 6 quarts of 5W20.

Ok....I just called the dealer and they told me its Honda motor oil and it's a synthetic blend. Kind of makes sense now since the sticker they put on my windshield only had boxes for synthetic blend or full synthetic (but they didn't mark which one was used). My guess is that the Honda motor oil is Kendall GT-1 Syn Blend since Kendall now only makes either synthetic blend or full synthetic.

Looking back at my receipt.....I noticed "0520C-BAS-N0L" also listed under the parts column. I just did a google search and it does come up with a link for Honda Synthetic Blend oil.

Honda oil is Conoco Phillips. .

The FSM states to use 29 ft-lbs for the drain plug. That is pretty tight and may be difficult to remove if you're using one of the infamous 9" long craftsman ratchets.

You have to be careful with a Fumoto valve and quick change places. When I traveling for work with my old Tacoma that had a Fumoto valve, more than couple of times I had some quick change lubes still spin the valve off and on like it was a standard drain plug than to use the valve lever function.

Seems many of these quick lube place still find it quicker to drain the oil by taking the whole Fumoto valve off than let the valve function do it's job.

Good point. I never go to quick change places and if i had to change the oil on the road- i would do it myself in the parking lot of autozone or somesuch. I can change the oil on my van with no tools and no ramps. Just buy a cheap plastic oil pan and the needed oil and filter and change it in the parking lot and give them the old oil back for them to recycle.

That is nice in a perfect world to want to change your oil on the road when not at home but it does not work out that way for most people. Especially in the middle of the winter and if your employer like mine only compensates for a receipted oil change service and not you just buying oil to do it yourself.

My point though is to not expect a oil change place to use your installed Fumoto valve.

Also, I actually had a Firestone in PA that would not even touch the truck with the valve installed period. Seems it added a layer of "liability" that they did not want to deal with.
