OCI's every 3500 miles (at one time years ago every 1500 with filter every 3000, but that was a bit much, although car ran over 205,000 miles with only oc's, tune ups, and a starter) but changed oil and filters maybe 400 times over 65 years. Never had a leak or a stuck or stripped plug from overtightening. I use a 6 point (not a twelve point, A SIX POINT) combination wrench, and I'm a thin not too strong guy, 85 years old, and I'm laying under the car at an awkward angle, so limited arm strength, I pull on the wrench as hard as I can, gloved hand, (using either a copper crush washer (Nissan) or a blue felt washer (Toyota) and after I get it as tight as I can, I have a 4" by 4" about 12 inches long, (on which I've written in marker "Snap-On Oil Change Tool") and I pick that up and whack the end of the combo wrench 13 times (why 13? dunno-seems like a good number). Seems to me that pulling on the wrench too much could hit a weak spot and cause a strip, but tapping on the wrench a wee bit at a time would be less likely to do that. They come off with one pull. In 65 years of doing it this way with different kinds of cars, and washers/gaskets,-always new (cheap insurance)-never a problem, never a leak. Now that I've written this, next time I'll screw it up!
