Just Curious about NOACK

Just curious about NOACK. Would an oil with lets say 6% NOACK vs an Oil lets say 8-9% NOACK is that 2-3% enough difference to pay double the price of an oil? Considering all other values are the same HTHS, Synthetic, or Group III+.

Oils in Question:

M1 0w40 vs. RL 5w30

M1 $25 for 5 qts at wallyworld
RL $11.50 per qt

Just curious on everyone's thoughts.

If you require an oil with a certain NOACK value then its probably worth it, but if your engine isn't NOACK sensitive then there's no point paying the extra..

If both oils are single-digit NOACK, they're both pretty good, so go with the cheaper one. But I don't think M1 0w40 has single-digit NOACK. The spec sheet I have doesn't list it. That said, another reason besides price to go with M1 0w40 is its TBN is a lot higher than Redline's, so you can go longer for an OCI.

It has NOACK of 8.8%. FYI, any oil meeting MB 229.5 spec must have NOACK in single digits.

That's a negligible difference and I wouldn't pay for it. Shoot for single digits and worry about bigger things in life.

Nah. XOM just doesn't publish this spec. The number I quoted came from some secret XOM presentation that wasn't supposed to be made public. Then someone also did a VOA that included NOACK test and confirmed it.

MB229.5 (or MB229.51) noack max is 10%. Oils don't need to be single digit values.
