The family started settling in for the night and I got to thinking... "I wonder if my radiators have ever been cleaned?"

Doesn't look like it.

I apologise for the sideways photos, I'm not sure why the forum has decided to rotate them for me. That's what I get for holding the phone vertically, I guess.

It worked well on all the ducting though! I used the shop vac, followed by heavily diluted Purple Power, the garden hose, (with a bucket to catch everything) and then some compressed air to clean the rads and condensers.

The 911s became water cooled with the 996 in 1998.
 
Even Harley Davidson held out as lonnnnnnnng as they possibly could.... before going to liquid cooled HEADS

Believe it or not that's just crap from driving around - very common on these cars.

I considered making some grilles with ¼" hardware cloth but I'm not sure how effective it would actually be. Most of the debris was pretty small.
 
I see you mentioned using heavily diluted Purple Power (15 water : 1 P.P.?) to clean your radiator.
For the record, I'm a big fan of Purple Power so this caught my eye.

This subject had just came up with a friend and he insists Tide laundry powder has enzymatic attributes which make it perfect for many tasks.
He says to dissolve it (obviously) and spray it through the radiator from behind (opposite the normal air flow).

It's so good you're looking after your nice car.

Apply the Tide powder to the radiator with a putty knife,really pack it in.
then drive 75 MPH in a rainstorm.
Turbo wash the radiator and leave a trail of suds to really confuse drivers behind you.
 
I foresee improved heat dissipation in your future!
These cars do indeed collect a surprising amount of debris in their front heat exchangers/condensers.

Did a 'center radiator' retrofit on the 982 to better its thermal management characteristics...with concurrent housekeeping.

I love Purple Power because it is so versatile.

I considered that as part of my track prep for this summer but I think my money would currently be better spent on an accusump and some decent wheels and tires. We'll see how it does with temps and go from there. I did put in a 160° thermostat a few weeks ago.

I didn't have any issues at Track Night in Charlotte last year but summer full-day sessions are a bit different.
 
If you do some top enders the build up of crud will be blown out one you get over 140 mph..

Have the heat exchangers,condensors, and radiator coated with a thermal dispersant.
