You bet. Even the popular girls had them and they fit well! As an acid test, I asked the same question of my buddy, and his dad was a CPA partner at a big 8, so they were relatively well off. Not only did he have Toughskins, but, being a middle boy, they were hand me downs.Anyone born with the first three year numbers being 196 remember Sears Toughskins? My God, you simply could NOT kill these or wear them out. I remember them getting passed down throughout my neighborhood, and one pair went through 6 different kids. They'd probably make good bulletproof vest material.
The concept of hand me downs is interesting. My wife has offered my son's clothing to her friends, only to be told, that's ok. They only buy new hahahahaha It's funny when folks by infant sneakers for $80+.
How about Gant Ruggers and Lacoste, Adidas. As we got older, we were conscious about brands we could not afford...
edit p.s. Sears Toughskins material likely would make good neck protectors, which became required in youth hockey August 2024.
edit p.p.s. just looked up Rugger, and at $170 for a polo shirt, couldn't afford it then, can't afford it today. At least it's free shipping over $150. that means shirts ship free

I can't overstate the influence Rifle jeans had in Europe back in the 80's. Tough as nails, but comfortable. Not sure if they ever made it to the US.
There was an ongoing printed add in France back then, can't remember if it was for Rifle or for Lee.
The ad was for kids' and teens' jeans, and was guaranteeing "...at least 600 falls on the ground without ripping..."
As a kid I was very impressed by such performance, it only hit me years later that the testing and certifiction process must have been THE interesting part

I wear 5.11 pants almost exclusively
I still rock cargos when working and cargo shorts when warm. The pockets are addictive
Jeans - currently Wrangler Authentics that have some stretch to them also.
Downside is when they get pulled up real tight into other parts because they are over your shoulders.
I haven't worn blue jeans in many years. I either wear golf pants, Orvis quick dry pants, or my trusty gray Lululemon (you read that right) pants. Nobody would ever guess the gray ones are Lululemon; they just look like plain gray pants.

That was in Europe back in '70s and 80s.
Made by Dearborn Denim for some time now.
Wrangler but really anything not Levis. Don't buy woke. But I don't really wear jeans, just Tru-Spec cargo pants. Got to have my pockets.
Nor a shortage of bucks!!
