1) Grampi bashed Harley, the owners, and made up a story about them being over priced.

3) Jaraxle made a goofy comparison about his scooter and a Harley, someone questioned him, and he asked if they were high.

4) the rest of the posters had a decent conversation.

You forgot about Alarmguy posting the same sales figures about a dozen times...and nobody has to make up stories about Harleys being overpriced...

Grampi you are the number one basher again! And yes you made up prices for Harley's. You had to go to the dealer to check. I hope that when I get to be your age my memory is better than yours. Time to see what bike I want to ride today.

Now you're just lying. I never made up any prices. If you'd bother to read the posts you'd see that I had prices and models mixed up. My memory is fine. I'm glad my reading comprehension is not bad like yours is...

When it comes to Harley you are mixed up a lot.

Hasn't the Japan been taking over the motorcycle industry for the last 50 years or so? They sure are taking their sweet time.

Title of the thread is about the motorcycle industry as a whole, not just the heavyweight cruisers or some other niche market like that.
Honda alone has sold more than 3 million motorcycles thus far.
I don't think this needs any further explanation.

While EU is full and saturated with pea shooters, NA market loves the heavy weight cruisers and it is definitely not a niche market.

I think you are wrong on this, the OP title doesnt say anything more the Japan taking over the motorcycle industry. The OP is from the USA, one would reasonably expect him to be talking about taking over the industry in the USA.
He makes mention of Harley Davidson, a USA brand specializing in heavy weight and luxury cruisers in the USA, he makes no mention of Honda or worldwide sales.
As my prevous posts stated Japan is nowhere near taking over the USA market and has been shutting down sales of their HD type cruisers because of huge loses, as they were not selling. They have tried for decades to steal market share from Harley, these HUGE Japanesse corporations have HUGE bottomless pockets as they make anything
from pianos to generators, to cars, to lawnmowers to sound equipment, to boats, the list is endless.

Harley makes motorcycles, one of a few speciality makers left. Japan spent a fortune trying to beat them down and failed. Honda makes bicycles with engines for 3rd world countries, that is not taking over the USA market.
I dont think this needs any further explanation.

i dont think you are trying to say 300,000,000 (300 million)

I'm not trying to do anything.
Anyway, just posted this to feed your sales figure mania.
Note I'm not bashing any maker, I like them all, they (almost) all have two wheels, and at the end of the day, that's what matters ain't it?

That's 300 million produced in 65 years. Most of it is in the scrap heap. Honda motorcycles is but a small player in the US market.

Ok, cool I got it. No problem, dont read my post wrong.

I was just getting confused with the Honda sales number correction you made. I didnt think it could be 300 million but I see it is over the life of the company. I was just trying to distinguish my and (I think most peoples) idea of motorcycles vs mopeds in the USA vs sales numbers discussions involving companies that do not make mopeds and moped type vehicles.

For the record.. I said it a million times. I like all kind of bikes, bikes are a personal thing, you pick one out to fit your riding style and you at times change models and makes as you refine that riding style. Here is a shocker.

I like the Honda CTX, sat on one a few times, for the fun of it, I wouldnt mind having one as a second bike. Maybe better said, it would be on my list to check out if I could have a second bike in the garage. Im trying to remember if that was the exact model, looking at photos, it sure looks like it with the two exhaust pipes the way they are and the small saddle bags.

AS far as sales. because my wife and I like all kinds of bikes, for years, even before the Road King, if you see below I owned two metrics.
But even after buying the Road King, we still go to other dealers looking around. What has lead to some of my posts.
I am still surprised on how impacted the motorcycle industry has become by our new economy. Even a HUGE class act Honda dealer near us, which used to be so stocked with bikes now has mostly ATVs. Since then we have not gone back and come to think of it, maybe time to visit again and see if things changed.
They used to have a huge lineup on bikes, now ATVs. I first Sat on a CTX I think, 2 years back I truly wanted to buy one as a second play around bike, thing that caught me, the bikes were so discounted, 1000s off.
On to a local Yami/Kawi/Suzuki dealer near me, same bikes always sitting on the floor but granted, the sport bikes are selling, then ATVs.

It's suprising to say that those were the original poster's questions, which then veered off course within roughly a dozen replies to discuss Harley Davidsons heavy weight cruiser market in this era, rather than the Japanese motorcycle revolution that occurred in the 60s.

By doing so nearly all the corresponding replies are hostile and off topic, hence there being over 10,600 views and only 216 replies. I personally think we should go back to what this post was initially about, and leave the rest behind.
