Somebody here has to set the metric fanboys straight. You have only proven that you love cheap imported junk, that goes out of style in a hurry and nobody will remember . Thinking your metric bike will ever hold a candle to a Harley is just plain foolishness.,,,

I agree and the original post opened the door for Harley Comments since Harley was mentioned. Since half the USA population with any mid to large size cruiser rides a Harley you have to expect comments once the brand is brought into a post.
Which then leads to where Japan is taking over the motorcycle industry? Not in the USA.

The post left open like that could be read/implying Japan taking over the USA motorcycle market and well, that could not be further from the truth.....
But some people can not see the truth, they are so jaded.

Another poster with a reading comprehension problem. Again, for the umpteenth time, the subject of Japan taking over the motorcycle industry was about what was taking place in 70s, not today. Learn how to read and understand what you're reading...I guess when you guys see the word Harley and anything negative near it you blow a fuse...

Thanks again for yet another constructive remark.

Todays news story is, or maybe the question should be how in the last couple decades did Harley Davidson beat Honda to a pulp, reducing Hondas USA market (as well as the other Japanesse brands) share to roughly 35% COMBINED.

Part of that answer, besides Harley providing a superior product the US consumer wanted, is long gone (but not quite) the inequitable trade status and benefits that Japan got from us and their own government making it hard for Harley and ALL USA companies to compete with in US DOLLARS. For gods sake, we were rebuilding their entire industrial machine after WWII, taking away US jobs and dollars. These benefits allowed them to spend more money and develop more expensive products at a cheaper price to USA consumers then what American companies could do per dollar. Also of course cheaper Japanese labor, which is now China.
This benefit almost sunk the US automakers, I am sure you remember.

my favorite ? the 63 seal and gasket HD use .no wonder it leaks lol. its 5 chapter total about half an hour but it is very informative for this season ,since a lot of people are looking into motor cycle .my favorite bike?

So using your facts on a 4k mile trip I would have to stop and work on the Honda but the Harley I just keep riding. Which is the better design?

So using your facts on a 4k mile trip I would have to stop and work on the Honda but the Harley I just keep riding. Which is the better design?

You'll keep riding your Harley until the cheap, plastic chain guide goes and launches your engine, or the stator that's buried in the hottest part of the engine goes out, or one of the other many bad designs fails...

All bikes are compromised from an engineering standpoint. I like BMW's with all of their well documented flaws and my wife likes Harleys which is why an Electra Glide resides in our garage.

Why can't we just ride what we like and accept what others ride without criticism?

This thread is no different than any of the others when you have people who like metric rides and those who like Harleys. They don't start out with the intention of belittling anyone's choice of motorcycles, but they always end up that way. The problem is, people take ANY criticism of their chosen brand as a personal attack, when most of the time the criticisms are just stated facts. I don't know why people take these things personally. Did we design and build the bikes we ride? No, we are simply consumers, so why take the criticism personally? Every man-made product has flaws, and motorcycles are no exception to that rule. I ride a Triumph. Is it perfect? Of course not, and if someone points out its flaws, I'm not going to pitch a hissy fit about it, nor am I going to take it personally. Why should I? I didn't design or build the bike. It is what it is, but unfortunately, some people just simply cannot accept the bike they chose to buy has any flaws, and if you point them out, you're labeled as a bad person, or a "basher" for doing so...

Sounds like you are the one hating Harley's. I own Harley's and Metrics. You are the person you [censored] about. You don't take criticism. You make up facts and name call when you are called out. I have put 20k problem free miles on Harley's in the last two years. We leave in June from Florida to Canada and I bet we have no problems. Ride more and [censored] less.
