Jalopnik: Man Spends Three Days Trying To Remove Oil Filter, Lives Every Wrencher's Nightmare.

According to the video below from the SEMA 2021 show, with the JM3 oil filter wrench, all you need to do is the spiderman gig with your fingers and don't blink. The filter will then be loose.

I use a old school K-D tools three-jaw oil filter wrench for these reasons alone. I’ve rarely have a filter refuse to come off with one.

On a Toyota I did an OCI that saw only quick lube service, the last shop used air tools to put the filter cap back on. I cracked the filter cap, as a last resort I had to use a breaker bar with a cheater pipe and the wrench to get it off.

On went a metal cap from a V6 model.

I generally only need an oil filter wrench every third or fourth change. I wipe off the filter and can unscrew it with my hand. I took my sequoia to have the oil changed and will evaluate how hard it is to get off the plug and filter.
If its hard to remove i will avoid using them again.

I had one stuck on which was a factory installed filter. I ended up getting to the gasket with WD40 and a plastic trim tool. I then used a very small flat head screw driver and poked at the gasket to allow WD40 to soak up. After an hour of that process I was finally able to barely get the filter to twist.

My 1998 Dodge Neon factory filter was welded on I swear. All my chest muscles hurt the next day trying to get that filter off. I was laying on my back with a foot bracing me on a tire.

My sister had a 2012 GMC 5.3. The delaer couldnt get the factory filter off so they just filled it back up with clean oil and sent it on its way. The next oil change I did. Thats when we found the crushed oil filter. The service manager got an ear full.
