Did Fram upgrade their oil filters as in metal ends caps maybe?

Difference on the P1, the stamped leaf spring's sole purpose is providing enough spring tension to hold element in place. Unlike Champ Labs bypass piece, no seal area for bypass piece involved. P1 (and many others) bypass is integral to dome endcap.

But as the vid shows, sometimes bypass seal area the least of it.

Fram Ultra missing bypass valve altogether.

Not something we see often if at all, but out of tens of millions of Fram filters produced annually, how many are cut open?

The rate of quality problems we see is verging on fraud.

It filters more oil than not. BR tested 99%. It’ll filter it on the next pass 😂😂😂

This is the Fram bypass filter. Very rare and lucky to find one.

I like it, the combo valve. They actually made the filter of course, patented it. And it was cheap.

I'd never use a combo ADBV/bypass valve type filter, regardless if it's patented or not - that doesn't mean is ideal. I'd really question it's proper operation is really cold weather start-ups. Some operate in different ways, so one combo valve may be better than another. But regardless, good old metal coil spring bypass valves are simple and function well at any temperature.

Sidenote - see the leaf spring info in that patent ... l looks flat and smooth, not warped, ripply and ratty, lol.
