Question using same filter for 2 oil changes

When I said "most posters here" I was referring to this thread. And I agree with them, that pulling the filter off to drain it is unnecessary and in some cases could increase risk of gasket leaks.

Also, what's not an open issue here on BITOG? :)
I looked through this thread before responding... maybe we characterize folks differently? You are correct. With the possible exceptions of "Nazi's being bad," and "pizza being great," there is no consensus, and a few issues that people respond to viscerally, mostly with polar opposition.

Leave in place.

For me if I’m going to take it off I’ll put a new one on.

As far as the “you need to get all the old oil out” crowd. There is more left in the block than the filter holds…
One step further, if you use a valve on the drain you can run a hose into a empty container and have a completely mess free oil change every second OCI which I like.

The oil filter on my 99 Caravan has been on there for 4 years, 20,000 miles. Over size Fram Ultra. Manual calls for filter change every 15,000 miles and a smaller filter than I have right now. No rust that I can see. Might change it this fall. If I change it, I'll cut n post it here.

2 changes on one filter year, I have cut open plenty of normally used oil filters that still look almost brand new.
2 oil changes on an orange can of death, maybe not so much.

Depends what's on the pizza. 😄
