I have never asked this question for myself however, I have read many member asking the same. Anywaaaay!

'15 Altima 2.5L in my signature w/36,000 miles. I currently have 4 months/4,000 miles on my oil/filter. Oil is HAVOLINE DS Full Synthetic 5W20 & PuroONE filter.

http://www.pqiamerica.com/Nov2013/havoline.htm

After Easter, we're driving to Florida from Rochester(for 2+ wks). Round trip alone will be ~3000 miles plus some driving while in Fl. We may[MAY]add on another 500-600 miles while in Fl. So, 3600 mile round trip. We're there to see family/friends so, we won't be traveling around the state. By the time we get back home, I'll have 7600 miles on the OCI...or maybe even 8000 miles on the OCI should we do some extra driving.

What say the experts?
Change the oil/filter before leaving or let it go til I return?

Thanks,

CB

I think 8k miles is about right for a quality synthetic in a car like that, especially with about 3k miles on the open road. I believe Tig1 does 10k miles on all his cars with M1.

Still no problem is you want to change early.

I'd change it, especially since the oil was used through the winter months, and Nissan's OCI's aren't that long to begin with.

I agree with demarpaint in this one. I'd change it out as well. That way you will not think about it at on your trip.

I guess you're right especially since the car is under warranty! However, I am surprised there isn't more comments on taking the OCI further(7K-8K miles) since the oil is Havoline full synthetic, which is held in high regard here at Bob's.

Change it when you get back, motor will be cleaned out and ready for summer .mileage is only 8k on syn,not much work for the oil.

OP, you're over warranty I assume, but this is important guidance. I'd argue that 7500-8000 total mikes on oil that had seen a ton of highway mikes is Ok, but you need to decide when you are willing to shy away from the manual, if ever...

Nope, still under Nissan's 5 yr/60000 mi. Then I have an extended warranty til 2021 on powertrain only which came with my CPO.

But your right. While under warranty, keep with Nissan's OCI recommendation of 5000 mi/6 months. If it stops raining today, I'll get'er done!

+1

Also for peace of mind while on your trip. It's only a few extra bucks. Worth it IMO.
Enjoy BTW.

Even with conventional oil going 8k with mostly hiway miles is not going to hurt anything. I try to change at 5k but have gone to 6K or 7k with straight up dino and never any issues. hiway miles are not very difficult on most engines, unless you are towing.

Changed, Done! I used MAG 1 5W30 Syn/dexos that I bought at Pep Boys, el-Cheap-O!
I checked all fluids and brake pads just for security. Tires are in great shape. Everything is good to go!
