Took my 2009 GMC Sierra to Pep Boys this morning. I told them to replace the oil filter with a Purolator PureONE and Valvoline SynPower 5W30. I got home and went to file the paperwork in a three ring binder and noticed that they had actually installed Pennzoil Platinum. I took it back over there and they acknowledged the mistake and drained it and filled it up with the Valvoline SynPower. But they didn't have another filter in stock. they drained the filter before reinstalling it. Any issues???

In theory you should have just left it as is, even though you didn't get what you asked for.

1) A filter gasket is designed for single use. But in reality it could be used over again a few times. It was such a short time is some huge relief that you won't have a problem.

2) One could argue that PP is better oil. For your warranty OCI it will make zero difference as to brand.

3) Slight amount of mixing shouldn't be a problem.

4) The best thing of all, you got a free flush with clean oil.

Score. Drive on.

I chose the Valvoline SynPower based on a lot of posts in this forum and I have never been a fan of Pennzoil products, maybe down the road I'll change my mind. The PP was in there for about 2.5 miles. I do like the idea of the flush. I appreciate the posts in response. I'm new on this subject and plan on keeping the truck for a long time. I'll keep an eye on the filter. And thanks again for the responses.

Filter will be ok. As long as they didn't disturb it by taking it off and putting it on. I guess you could do that, but I wouldn't.

I did my lower intake gaskets a week ago. I didn't touch the filter, I just drained and refilled. The reason for this was the P1 only had 1000 miles on it at the time AND I did 3 oil changes total this week. It would be a bigger waste dropping the filter each time. Coolant is NOT your engines friend in my example. I rather waste 15 qts of oil than my engine. Slightly different scenario but no problems with the oil filter.
