I am finding it almost impossible to find Purolator filters anywhere anymore when a year ago they were plentiful. FRAM seems to be locking up most of the aftermarket shelf space is the most of the chain stores while Wix seems to be holding onto a position in NAPA and independant auto parts stores.

What is the story?

AC-Delco is likewise almost completely gone from the retail market.

I haven't seen a Purolator for years in the marketplace (Western Canada). I have trouble finding anything but FRAM. WIX is available at NAPA of course.

Here in S.E. Michigan, Meijer has only Purolator oil and air on the shelves.

Here in Georgia they can be found at Discount Auto, Advanced Auto and Pep Boys. Can you get Motorcraft filters? If so, find the cross reference to the Purolator. -Joe

Purolator is Advance Auto Part/Discount Auto's main filter supplier. They also carry a limited number of AC delco oil filters in the stores but I think those are starting to get phased out as well. Being from California though, there are only a handful of Advance stores out west, but you can get them online (purolator, ac delco, k&n, etc) from their website at their regular in-store prices.

I had reason to be near a Pep Boys in Sunnyvale, CA today and it looks like Purolator is indeed their primary supplier. More Purolator on display than I have seen anywhere in many years.

I guess that different chains are cutting nearly exclusive deals with different suppliers. With the huge number of part number applications a parts store needs to cover I can understand why they would focus on one supplier.
