Hey guys and gals,

I am just curious to know if Purolator L14477 is just an updated L14476. All dimensions and specs seem to be the same except that L14477 is .59in longer. One thing not mentioned in the specs, however, is where the threads begin in relation to the gasket mating surface. Holding these filters side by side in my hands, 14477 seems that its threads don't begin until a little deeper into the filter.

What's the consensus guys? In most applications I've seen for these filters, length isn't really important for clearance purposes. I work on cars that spec both of these filters, and if L14477 will work anywhere L14476 does, then that's one less filter I have to keep on hand.

L14476 specs per puro's site:
Anti-Drain Back Valve Yes
Height 2.93
O.D. 2.69
Relief Valve P.S.I. 14-18
Thread Pitch UNF-2B
Threads 3/4-16
Type of Filter Spin-on

Good beans man. Can I ask what year your Corolla is? I maintain a 99, 01, and 08. The 08 specs the 14477, while the other two the 14476 if I remember all that right. I've got a couple more 76s to go through in my stock, then I'm only planning on buying the 77s from then on.

Mine's a 94.

The only "issue" I have with the longer Purolator is that the center tube is the same length as the 476. That means about 1/4 inch of filter material is not supported via the center tube. However, I've used many of the 77s even in cold weather (ie high oil pressure conditions) and checked each and every filter and have not seen the filter media blow out from not being supported.
