I bought a half dozen Purolater Classics a few years ago on sale. I just threw them out after reading the pathetic performance. However, I've heard and read that Purolater is back on track?? But do you trust the situation?? Personally, I vow never to buy again but I'm interested in BITOG opinion?

I like Wix, but someone posted a used Puro here a few days ago and the crimp was different than anything I had seen before. I guess we'll need to see a few more to tell if the fix works.

Hopefully they fixed the tears. The Kryptonite bike lock company had a media nightmare many years ago. It was brought out that a normal bic pen could pop the locks. They admitted their mistake and they had a policy to send in their locks for a replacement. No questions asked. Of course, Purolater has taken the "see no evil hear no evil" approach. I will never buy from them again.

Why should I trust them ? There's plenty of other filters on the market to choose from.

If they admit to a problem they can be held liable for it.This is why no manufacturer admits to an issue unless its reached recall status.

The thing is, probably the vast majority of Puro users have never heard of the "tear" and continue to buy their products.

I have one friend who has used only Fram Orange filters his entire life and does not want to hear about poor quality. Probably the same with many Puro users.

Even on this forum, Puro was the darling of the filters until recently and Fram was the outcast. Now it seems just the opposite with Fram Ultra leading the pack.

I've gone from M1 filter to the Ultra for both my vehicles.

I'm not trying to challenge you here, but who did you hear it from, and where did you read it?
Was it an official press release from Purolator ?
Or did Slappy, the kid behind the counter at the gas station tell you?

Considering the source may help the validity of what you've read/heard.

Legal discussion aside, I did see the post where there was some sort of metal clip holding the seam on a newer Puro so they may be taking some action. I used to use them.

I use Amsoil filters now.

How about Puro Blue (synthetic)? Any instances of them tearing? I have a few and have been wondering if images would crop up. I haven't noticed any but i don't normally review the oil filter subsection as much as others topics.

The alleged tear problem is supposed to affect only recent production so you threw out some good filters. I'm still using them without a second thought.

The Synthetic filters should be fine.

Answers:

No idea.
No I do not trust them.
My opinion is there are other options, so why bother with Puro's.
