I had an Aunt (Helen) who was a nutrition buff. She was adamantly opposed to sweet cereals, assuming the mantle of lioness protecting her cubs.

Get some Spoon Sized Shredded Wheat.....use almond milk on it....add a touch of maple syrup.
Use real maple syrup not corn syrup (cheap pancake syrup)
1) It gets my approval so you're OK there
2) Leave some of the milk in the bowl for your cat to lick up. They love it.

cereals are junk food!!! even worse than years ago as modern modified grains are worse than ever + corn is almost always GMO soaked in glyphosate if not organic + whole grains mean little as they according to Dr William Davis spike your blood sugar within 15 min instead of lower fiber ones that act ASAP. Dr Ken D berry describes modern cereals with skim milk as the WORSE + as always look out for chemically processed high fructose corn syrup which is even WORSE than typical table sugars!!! they dont kill you on the spot but like many poor food choices take their toll in later years!!
