Is BITOG just a version of social media or is it something else?

BITOG is social media by another name. VBB Forums were the first form of modern social media.

Anytime you converse online with someone you are socializing, and media is just a generic way of referring to multiple mediums to accomplish this.

There are MANY groups on Facebook that like-minded people go to help one another. Facebook just makes it a more fluid and instantaneous way of communicating.

IMO, it’s a site people can learn from. Plenty of knowledgeable folks here. I was never on social media and won’t ever. So, no I don’t think this site is anywhere related to social media. I come to learn new stuff and help others if I can.
Dude....you are litterally "talking" to people online like it or not...it's social...it's media...it's a form of it and you are into it. No, no AI eval of your habits/marketing to you (wait....I think there is some marketing to you here on a few products....) but you are interacting with folks online...social media all day/every day. Just an older form of The Matrix..er...social media...how is this any different than a FB group where I post a question "what oil should I use"?

BITOG started out like Gas Town but has grown into something resembling the Citadel.
BITOG hated my Citadel because it also said “Dodge” 😏

The fact that this entire thread is dedicated to something other than oil/lubrication would indicate that some people here treat BITOG like social media ...
Just sayin'.
What makes it more funny are some people who post here about, ohhh, let's see.... the coffee they drink, food they've eaten recently, etc 😜

Definitely it was not a social media forum when it started in 2002 and for that rerason I later joined in 2005.
Stick to BITOG subjects.
Petrol/ Diesel engined oil vehicles are the future.

^^^ It's not the subject matter that makes it social media or not, it's the fact that many people are interacting with each other and sharing ideas, opinions and information that makes it a social media website. Basically any chat board regardless of the subject matter being discussed (even if it was just oil from day one) is a social media website.
