Is anybody getting up early just to work on your car and beat the heat?

It has been hot for weeks. Even by 9, it's already too hot to work on your car! So, does anyone start working on their cars at 7 or before that? Getting up early just to beat the heat before it gets really hot?

I need to change the oil on my car, along with the ATF. I'd rather not go to Jiffy Lube, and I already have the oil and ATF.

Absolutely, we get up early anyway and if it's going to be a hot day, I'd much rather work in the garage at 6 AM when it's cool than at 3 PM when it's blazing hot.

Just last week I did front struts and all four rotors and pads on an Elantra and had it all done by 9 AM. That included dealing with two stuck slide pins. I think the first lug nut came off at 5:30 AM.

No I don't. I try to get my 17 year old to help me out, he's not interested in getting up early.

Last service was two oil changes, so it wasn't that bad. Normally I try to avoid any repairs in the middle of summer unless it's necessary.

If I needed to run the air compressor early
the neighbors wouldn't appreciate it. I do have the dewalt 20v impact for most jobs.

Got up early today to watch the Mars Mission launch. Then went to do some yard work and put up storm shutters for Isaias. It prob won't be bad, but you never know.
Atlas 5's aren't as impressive as Falcon 9's, but we like to watch them anyway.
Don't want to get up too early around here, the no-see-um's will eat you alive at dusk and dawn!

Yep. I got up at 530am yesterday to replace the fuel pump in my Tahoe while it was cool. I was finished by 8am. Then I showered and napped until noon.

If I have anything to do on the car in the summer you bet I get up early. It's in the low 80s first thing in the morning here in the summer. Same goes for mowing the lawn. I do it at 7:00AM.

I do injectors during the day in A/C comfort and cars at night after 8pm if I have to do something. Winter is just the opposite, I have a coffee machine, mini fridge and laptop in both places. No point beating yourself to death, enjoy the work.

I live in florida. It's hot at 7-8 am but the humidity is the killer in the summer. Moving around doing simple tasks has you dripping in a matter of minutes. At 4pm it's brutal, just standing and you're wet. So yes, I get up early, take breaks, drink liquids and if it's a real job like ball joints or something like that, I stretch it out over 2 days. My garage is not air conditioned and I'm a senior citizen. steve

Yep, the sun doesn't face the garage side of the house until the afternoon, so the earlier the better. If it's extremely humid I put the job off. Can't stand working and having sweat sting in your eyes.

6am wake up. 7-11 am work 1/2 days on cars or house.

Shower, lunch. Do something clean and cool for the rest of the day!

I enjoy the sweat I get when changing oil in 110F garage in STX in the middle of the summer. Justifies a few cold ones afterwards to replenish the fluids.

Not really. Have been working on my Jeep on the weekends. 117 degrees the other weekend and today and tomorrow. I have a big nice evaporative cooler I run.

But I cut the grass at 9pm when it’s only 105 or so out. I have the Ryobi 40v with headlights

I have a heated and cooled garage so it makes no difference to me. Im spoiled and you wouldnt catch me working on the car in the heat unless it was an emergency.

I try to do my work in garage during nighttime due to the daytime heat. That comes with its own set of problems though, namely the mosquito swarms that come with any normal light usage for seeing what I’m doing.

I have a bug zapper hanging up and use OFF religiously, and I even use yellow bug light bulbs in my drop lights and such, but the mosquitos are still a problem...just not as big of one as before all these mitigation’s.

I have found red bulbs in the drop lights draw 0 insects (as opposed to the 50% less with yellow), but using a red light to illuminate my work items can be dangerous and not a definite, 100% of the time, solution.
