Is anybody getting up early just to work on your car and beat the heat?

Not really. Have been working on my Jeep on the weekends. 117 degrees the other weekend and today and tomorrow. I have a big nice evaporative cooler I run.

But I cut the grass at 9pm when it’s only 105 or so out. I have the Ryobi 40v with headlights

evaporative coolers don't work on the east coast because it's too humid

Up early to work on lawn sprinkler system. Seems every lawn sprinkler outfit in our area is booked at least two weeks out. So Hosteen gets his sod shovel and purple bag of tools and parts(wife received bag with purchase of cosmetics) and with knee pad in hand, begins disinterment of 4" pop-up heads. Got the worst ones done and may let rest go until next spring. Or if Hosteen is departed, wife can try and find someone to do the work because lawn sprinklers will no long be a part of my job description.

We go through attic fans frequently. This one just made It the record shortest of 9 months. No more motors from Lowe’s or Home Depot. The retrofit to a sealed, ball bearing unit with framing under the existing mushroom took 3 weeks, early mornings. It’s hot up there.

ive learned I can work in the afternoon on the cars, but the fatigue rate triples and clumsiness sets in. Bought large fans years ago but it barely helps and then there’s this racket the whole time. I’m trying to time shift to the morning as well and be wrapped up by 2-3 regardless of the project. Nighttime is not an option, the mosquitoes are large and intelligent enough here to tattoo their names on by ankles.

Like the other desert dwellers' responses, it won't be 'cool' at sunrise again until late October. Yes, I'd rather work on things at sunrise when it's the least hot, but humidity is kinda high now that we're into thunderstorm season.

It has been hot for weeks. Even by 9, it's already too hot to work on your car! So, does anyone start working on their cars at 7 or before that? Getting up early just to beat the heat before it gets really hot?

I need to change the oil on my car, along with the ATF. I'd rather not go to Jiffy Lube, and I already have the oil and ATF.
You would not like working where I work. No escaping the heat and the cars keep piling in.

If I need to do any work Im up early. 5am works for me. Im up by 4:30 during the week, It calls to be 104* tomorrow. I work on the coast though and it's 20* cooler. I trimmed all my trees last weekend and I was drained by 1:00 each day.

I get up at 6:00 AM and open both garage doors. It’s cool outside in the morning in this mountainous area, usually around 57 F. This cools the garage down to about 68 F. Then I avoid opening the garage doors and just cut through the house or use the back door in the garage to go outside for the rest of the day. The risk of this is letting a varmint in. This evening I heard a skittering sound but it turned out to be a large dragon fly bumping agains the fluorescent lights. Luckily we don’t have rats in this part of the world. The birds of prey pick them off before they make it inland from the coast.

No I don't. I try to get my 17 year old to help me out, he's not interested in getting up early.

Last service was two oil changes, so it wasn't that bad. Normally I try to avoid any repairs in the middle of summer unless it's necessary.

If I needed to run the air compressor early
the neighbors wouldn't appreciate it. I do have the dewalt 20v impact for most jobs.

You are an honorable man! Who would think to consider their neighbors peace of mind and tranquility? Not many

As soon as it starts to get slightly light outside, I'll be in the driveway washing & vacuuming. I have to hurry through it before the sun comes up over the neighbor's roof. Once that happens, game over. Because Texas.

I keep my garage closed up tight when it's hot and humid out and run a dehumidifier. Almost feels air conditioned with a couple of fans blowing even when it's 90 degrees in the shop. Nothing rusts, and the compressed air is dryer too.

My township is very strict with their sound ordinance. Absolutely NO loud activities (mowing, outdoor construction, fireworks, power tools, etc.) before 7am and after 9pm. They are serious about it and enforce it regularly. So, if it is going to be hot out, we try to get anything done outdoors done as soon after 7am as possible.

I just try to avoid working on cars this time of year. Unfortunately, the blower motor quit on the Ranger yesterday so I kind of had to deal with it. Even after the sun went down I was dripping sweat after about two minutes of looking for tools. By the time I was done digging leaves, dirt, and pine straw out of the evaporator box with a plastic fork I had pretty much stopped caring about how nasty I felt.

I only do car work in spring and fall. I absolutely hate sweating while working on cars. The sweat always manages to sting my eyes, when under a car. I have worked in an unheated garage in the peak of winter, down to 30 degrees, and I prefer that to hot and sweaty. So I just avoid working on my cars in the summer.

I solved this problem by having a mini split installed in the garage (Mancave). When I am ready to go out there I crank it down to 76 degees. Within a half hour its nice and crispy cool. Now I just need to get the television hooked up for visual entertainment.
