agree but he states that electric cars are mandated ,however I notice that most of the laws being passed are down the road aways ,usually long after the politicians that brought them forward would be pout of office.then a new slate of pols can extend or ignore if impossible. We tend to only obey laws we mostly agree with ,and most of these are virtue signalling
physics will have the final say that and capitalism
Fusion coming on board in the next 20 years will be helpful

He may be right, what to I know?
But Tesla is eating his lunch. And Toyota seems to be dragging it's heels with an EV.
Aversion to change is human nature.

Having said that, I love my Toyotas.

I largely agree with him. Whilst I understand some aspects of government intervention like making seatbelts and cat converters standard, they should not stick their hands in the limitations and dead-set requirements of consumers telling them they need xxxxx by year xxxx. Maybe if the Gov poured money into scientific and tech research like they did during the mid 1900s then we'd be further along.

Toyota President sentiment is interesting reference electric vehicles and what actually matches for people.

Consider his audience.

He's basically saying that as a company they want to continue to be able to sell cheaper to produce ICE in second/third world countries at a certain price point.

For example take a look at countries in the world which do not mandate ULSD.

They were the first with a Hybrid and me thinks a hybrid makes a hell of a lot more sense than electric. No infrastructure. A harsh summer and/or winter kills a complete city’s electrical system…. How would 500k electric vehicles charge???

Toyota makes the best hybrids. I think they make sense for many people, including me. In fact I own one. Highly recommended.
Beyond hybrids, Toyota makes great cars. They run and run. I would drive my old Tundra (210K) anywhere, if I could afford the gas! People commonly ask if I would like to sell it. Nope.

I was very interested in the Mirai when it was under development; I anxiously went to see it when it came out. That car was so ugly; it was an embarrassment. I have talked to a few Mirai owners; they are not impressed. Of course, that is a small sampling.
