Highly doubtful. You guys simply do not realize how much resources and raw materials are needed for battery production. Now, scale it up to anything even remotely approaching ICE vehicle production and it’s not hard to realize it is not sustainable.

But then again, the future is planned for an average Joe/Jane to own nothing and be happy. So EV may happen, but vehicle ownership will look nothing like today.
The same could have been said when Henry Ford came up with " transportation for the masses". Where is all the steel, rubber, and especially fuel going to come from? The only difference between now and then is we have technology and no how that is far superior than anything that could have been hoped for back in Henry Ford's day. The EVs are coming. And once the issues are fully solved- they are better in every way than what you are currently driving.

Toyota president has to save face that they have not even tried to create an EV and Tesla is significant threat them in luxury market.
I don't think so. They have an up to 1 year (or longer) waiting list for most of their hybrids. They are NOT having any problem selling their vehicles or competing. About the only Toyota vehicles that you can purchase without waiting too long are non-hybrid trucks.
As far as building battery EVs are concerned, Toyota is waiting for their solid state battery development to come to fruition before building large numbers of them. When they do, look out! They will bury some competitors.

That is meaningless , that is pent up demand for vehicles and specifically hybrid which few car makers offer because people freaked out about fuel prices again.

There is a crowd that wants EV and Toyota has nothing to offer at the moment.

There are a LOT of shortages today that have nothing to do with demand. Are people suddenly getting more colds? Then why are the shelves that contain the nasal spray and cold medicine, in most all pharmacies nationwide bare?

I go to my local Walmart at least once a week. There are large holes in shelves everywhere. For everything from dog food to coffee, to cheap, ready to assemble furniture. Are people getting over caffeinated, then running out and adopting pets, after they redecorate their family rooms?

The fact is there are supply chain issues with this present administration EVERYWHERE, that simply didn't exist 2-1/2 years ago. Couple that to the fact inflation is going off the charts. Which adds up to the fact people have far less spendable income as a direct result. Loan interest rates on everything, including cars are higher, and continuing to climb.

Many companies are laying off, or else are going to be in the upcoming year. The housing market is about as unstable as a drunk on a unicycle...... But you have to go on a waiting list to buy a car?????? It doesn't add up. None of it.
