Insane motel room prices

I don’t mind spending more money to get a quality hotel.

I will not stay in a sketchy motel just to save money or be close to my destination.

Sadly the only difference between a sketchy hotel and an acceptable one is that one has a room open and the other doesn’t. Prices and locations usually aren’t affected by divyness.

Sight-seeing in Manhattan is getting ridiculous. Even the entry level national chains like Red Roof or Comfort Inn want at least $360 per night after taxes and fees. That doesn't include parking.

We spend around nine hours per day inside the hotel room. A large majority of that time involves sleeping. So I have a problem paying $40 per hour to basically sleep or shower inside Mid-Manhattan.......... close to Times Square.

I don't do fleastone places...
One has a 4.5 rating on google maps, which is pretty hard to get. I would give that one a shot for sure. I have gone super cheap and those are sketchy, but if I pick the cheapest one above a 3.5-3.7 on google, its always been clean and good enough.
The only time I stay at the more expensive ones is for sport team trips, and most are nicer, and the pool is open, but usually the breakfasts are ok, not great, but its not worth extra money to me(in my budget) just for the difference in the rooms and building, I'm just there for the kids to have fun and the parents to have some drinks.
For our vacation travel, I'd rather save the money and do something fun, as saving $100/night still buys quite a few laps go-karting or whatever.

Had to get a room in Boston after not getting to Logan early enough. (Apparently 2 hrs before departure isn't enough when with a pet at Logan... which no info I was given said)

Anyhow room was $120, but then they charged my card another $50 for parking, in THEIR lot, and $90 for my dog. Plus a slew of fees, taxes, etc.

My signed receipt at checkout was for the $120 plus a few taxes, that's it.
I ended up disputing it.

Paying more money makes a great filter for your prospective neighbors for the night.

We have to when we stay near my daughter college by a $100 for decent room and also next level guests.

No police visits in the night or stench of weed in the halls when you pay $240+ .

Yep.

I still don’t know why some dumb dumbs leave bad reviews for staying at $69 a night at Red Roof Inn.

Safety is my # 1 concern when I travel and need to stay at hotel.
