Given gas at $3.30+/gal and Ford's reccomendation that 5w-20 can be used in our '98 3.8L Windstar I decided to switch over to the new weight. So far the engine sounds & acts the same as it did on TropArtic 5w30; as far as I can tell.
Will post UOA on my TropArtic fill although I'm mainly only looking for coolant contamiation if it's there.

From what I can tell; the MSDS sheet says ST 5w-20 is 60-90% Group 2 and the rest Group 1. I will probably switch to Motorcraft when things are said and done (I have a small coolant leak and I'm making sure it's not the intake gaskets first.)

Here's to an extra .01 MPG!

Have you ever considered the Amsoil 0W20? It might give you a little better gas mileage even still. I am currently testing Chevron supreme 5W20 cheap stuff in my Tundra spec'd for 5W30. Then I will try the new Amsoil 0W20 by itself, then maybe Amsoil 0W20 with 3 oz of AutoRX. I had about a 7% increase in MPG when I went from Chevron 5W30 to Amsoil 0W30. So it will be interesting to see what happens from there to a lighter 5W20.

If there is ANY Group I in it it, then the 60-90% is Group III. You can't blend a 5w20 that meets GF-4 specs with Group II and Group I.

Is this WPP? On their product page the only 5w20 listed is a semi-synthetic. Is there any chance that Wally-World is buying semi-syn and marketing it as a dino. in order to hit a good price point.

I tried to get this for my 07 Optima but they were out and I had to settle for 5w30. I always had good results with ST with my 01 Elantra.

As Gene K indicated, I would read this MSDS as the 5-10% of
severely solvent refined, light paraffinic petroleum oil, CAS 64741-89-5, being a carrier for the additives.

The other Grp I base oil, 64741-88-4, at 1-5% is probably a dose of low volatility bright stock to help meet the 20 weight high temp specification.

As G-Man explained, it would be hard to meet the GF-4 spec's if a significant portion of high volatility Grp I base oils were used in the formulation.

A varying percentage of Group III synthetic is found inside most-all 5W-20 dino labels.
